1995 Jetta GLX VR-6
Small Car with a big
In April of 1994 VW Canada supplied to the Schmidt Racing a 1995 model Jetta GLX VR-6.
Since we hade a few years of experience with the VR6 Corrado it took us all but four weeks
to build the Car to be race worthy.
Gunter in a solo effort, was driving the VR6 Jetta in its racing debut in May 94 to a first place finish.
The 3 hr race at Mosport Park also was the first Valvoline Touring Car Championship event that year.
Later in the season Alister Oag joined back with the team as Gunter's co driver and the duo captured
a total seven wins,4 second place, one third and one fourth
place finish in 13 starts.
The biggest win that year without a doubt was at the Montreal Formula 1 GP when Gunter and Allister captured
their first win in the Michelin Endurance Series. Gunter repeated that result in 1996 in another solo effort.
Since the first outing of the Jetta GLX VR6 the Car has accumulated over 40 wins and two Championship.
In 1998 this Car will be competing in the Ontario Sprint Race Championship.
Equip with Goodyear Slicks, some small engiene mod's and less weight
we will try to defent our 1997 Championship in GT-B Class.
