I. paradoxa has been one of the most popular of the onco species --
relatively easy to grow and with a wide range of forms. Among hybridizers, it
has been much less popular -- probably because its unique proportions do not
mix well with those of other species. I. paradoxa
contributed significantly to the aril gene pool, but few of its descendants are
available today. As one of the more northern species, however, it does have
relatively cold-hardy traits to contribute to the arilbred gene pool. Most
of its arilbred offspring were produced in the era of the diploid oncobreds and
apparently few survive. More recently, however, it has entered the halfbred
gene pool through Don Ricardo and its offspring, Dorcas.
Dorcas' halfbred offspring include Looking for Lydia, Springtime
Banner, Study in Amethyst, and Work of Dorcas. There are
also two 3/4-breds, Armenian Descent and Israeli Rose, that may
have enough fertility to be useful in these lines. |
