Sherlock Holmes DVD Release

On Wednesday 03 October, MPI Media Group releases four episodes of Granada The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes television series, starring Jeremy Brett and David Burke, on DVD.

OR SOME TIME, Brettians have been campaigning for MPI Media Group for DVDs of the Granada Sherlock Holmes series, in hopes that the memory of Jeremy's Holmes passes to the 21st Century. Finally, our cries have been answered. To be publicly released on 03 October 2000 is the first The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on DVD. The first volume starts with four excellent Granada episodes in one from the first season: A Scandal in Bohemia, The Dancing Men, The Naval Treaty, and The Solitary Cyclist. Richard Valley of Scarlet Street commented, "I'm stunned! The shows are beautiful to behold, with sharp images, crisp hues, and warm, vibrant sound." Other releasing DVD volumes are still in production, no date has been given as of yet. See Memorabilia Brettiana.

In memoriam Charles Gray. The brothers are together. British actor Charles Gray died on Tuesday 07 March 2000, succumbing to his long-suffering illness of throat cancer. Born Donald Marshall Gray on 29 August 1928 in Bournemouth, England. He starred in numerous roles, including The Criminologist from Rocky Horror Picture Show, Ernst Stavro Blofeld from Diamonds are Forever, and Granada's elder brother of Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft. When Gray made his stage debut in 1952, as Charles the Wrestler in As You Like It, there was already an one-armed actor named "Donald Gray," hence the change in forename. The beloved 71-year-old bacholar died at the Brompton Hospital in London.

Top UK TV Programme Poll. The British Film Industry (BFI) compiled a list recently of the top 100 UK TV programs of all time. Programmes such as Morse and Fawlty Towers made the list, but where is Sherlock Holmes? It's not there! The entire list voted by the BFI can be seen at here. However, all is not lost, Holmes can still make it on the list. BFI is also conducting a reader poll on the top British TV program of all time here. You don't have to vote for one of the programs that made their list, therefore here is a chance to vote for the Granada Sherlock Holmes series as the #1 British program of all time! Vote and spread the word!

New JB French Comics. French cartoonists Pierre Veys and Nicolas Barral did a brilliant caricature of Jeremy Brett in their bande dessinee, Sherlock Holmes n'a peur de rien (Sherlock Holmes Fears Nothing). The comic was filled with hilarious drawings and entertaining stories for any Sherlockian to enjoy. Just announced on Alapage.com, volume two of the Baker Street series is to be released. It is entitled Sherlock Holmes et le Club des Sport Dangereux (Sherlock Holmes and the Club of Dangerous Sports). Its publication date is January 2001. See Paraphernalia Brettiana de Exotica.
