|
| The great warmth
and color from the window closest to the altar on the
south side fittingly portrays the seven Channels of
Grace, or the seven Sacraments. Baptism, which makes us Christians and children of God and gives us the first participation in the Priesthood of Christ is at the top. Immediately below is the sacrament of forgiveness, Penance, portrayed by the stole and key. The symbol in the bottom right side panel represents the sacrament of hope or trust, the beautiful Sacrament of the Sick. The center panel contains the sacrament of fuller participation in the Priesthood of Christ or Holy Orders. The highest symbol on the left side tells us of the sacrament of faith, Confirmation. The sacrament which nourishes the power of love is the Sacrament of Love, the Holy Eucharist, in the extreme left panel. Finally the seventh sacrament, the ring of crowns, is the Sacrament of Matrimony, also the Sacrament of Love. The Channels of Grace are with the Christian throughout life and, using the powers given through the Sacraments, grows through actions of love in beauty and strength of soul. |
