Human Church |
God
chooses to dispense His Words and treasures through
vessels of clay. God recognizes human values in spite of
human weaknesses and chooses very ordinary men as the
first and subsequent dispensers of His teachings and
Graces. In this window, the first ordinary men surrounding the crown and the palm of victory are the Apostles. Beginning on the right side from the top are: St. James the Less, killed with a club; St. Simon the Zealot, a fisherman; and St. Jude, who traveled far and wide and is seen with the sail of a sailboat. In the next panel are St. Peter, nailed to the cross with head down; St. Andrew, tied to a cross in the form of an X; and St. James the Greater, portrayed with the baptismal shell. The figures on the first left side panel are St. John, writer of the Fourth Gospel, who was cast into a caldron of burning oil; St. Bartholomew with trowel, mason's tools and brick wall; and St. Matthew. In the extreme left panel are St. Philip, the travelling Apostle, with a cross and staff; St. Thomas, a carpenter; and finally Judas and his pieces of silver. Through the Church, God's Love reaches every corner of the world. |
