Elevation and Fall |
The
Elevation and Fall Window tells us of the incomparably
greater love of God in lifting man to the infinite height
of His own Being. He gives to us a participation through
Grace in His own love and destines us to His own
happiness in the Beatific Vision. From bottom to top in the right panel, our ascension toward our destiny through external and internal peace is depicted. External peace is symbolized by the lion and the lamb lying down together; internal peace by the state of Adam and Eve's perfect control before the Fall. The world and its beauty are the Garden of Eden because of its harmony. All things, including the powers of our minds and bodies, are subject to us and we are subject to God. Death is natural to all life, but God planned an exemption from suffering and death for His adopted children on earth. But perverse wills chose destruction. The left side portrays abuse (energy becomes the atomic bomb), the fall from Grace (Satan), death (the tombstone) and evil (the serpent). |
