II Conference of the World Mediation Forum

14 through 16 of December of 1998

La Habana - Cuba  

 
Under the title "Mediation Techniques: Exchanging Experiences and Models ", will be accomplished the II Conference of the World Mediation Forum. Its objective is to share the growing phenomenon of new techniques originated from different models, not only in  Family Mediation but in as Commercial and Social (Penal, Penal with smaller, Neighborhood, School, etc.)

25  years of experience in  different fields of Mediation , make useful and necessary to evaluate the road traveled and exchanged the accomplished experiences. The different methods and technical will be shared from the everyday experience and its theoretical background . To make  this exchange  fruitful has been designed the following strategies:
1)The conference will take place in a unique surrounding, appropriate to the task proposed, far from the city center thus ensuring that the matters discussed are shared by all those present..
2) Talks given by guest speakers and debating sessions.
3) Workshops based on role-playing, directed by recognized mediators, that will enable real possibilities for learning.
4) Training Workshops in the Pre - Conference directed by prestigious mediators (not included in the registration  fees of the Conference)

WHEN?
Pre - Conference: 11 and 12 of December of 1998
Conference: from the 14 to the 16 of December of 1998

WHERE?
L Habana, beautiful capital, founded by the Spanish,  starts its territorial and urban development on the second half of the XVII century and reaches its real brilliance in the XIX century, being specially relevant the Old La Habana that it is a colonial architectural complex and that it has been declared by the UNESCO as Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity.
In the west zone of the City of La Habana, in the middle of beautiful and green gardens is  located the convention hall, is the place where  the II Conference of the World Mediation Forum will take place.-

LANGUAGES
All the  round tables and conferences count with simultaneous translation in Spanish - French -English. The workshops will be organized based on the chair’s language  and they will not count with translation. The definitive program will indicated in which language will be given each paper . If the need for translation to one of the official languages of the Forum does not represent at least  the 20% of the registered participants, it will not be mandatory the translation service for the said group.
Continuing the growth experimented since the International Conference of Dublin, and the subsequent of San Lorenzo del Escorial, the World Mediation Forum  widens the field of its conference to the Social Mediation, being completed thus the three fields in which it has been divided up until now the applications of the Mediation, that is  Family, Commercial (inter and intra organizations,
occupational, hospital, with public organizations, etc) and Social (Victim-offender with adults and minors, Schools, neighbors, etc)
We intend that this Conference will be a space in the one  a special place will be given to practices of the mediation, that is to say, areas of application and its specific techniques, problems found in the application and proposals as how to work for its solutions. Also there will be certain spaces for theoretical analysis on the current state of the Mediation from the point of view of the development of an own theory for its practice, more than what the others theories say about  Mediation. It Is
to say, the search from practice of our own theoretical framework of each one of the modalities and experiences.

One of the scopes of the conferece is to work in a better specification of mediation practice and  theory , thus permiting a richer exchange with other disciplins related with mediation.

15 spaces for discussions and Round Tables of two hours each one and 72 spaces for Workshops, will permit a fecund and deep work.

To say that we will procure to create a space for examine closely  the legislative current state of the Mediation in all the countries of the world that are represented in the Forum, and the standards of accreditation. that are required in each one.

Finally, the elected host could not be better, since with their recognized human quality, professionally in  fulfilling their task and splendid geography, guarantees us  all an additionally reason for an  agreeable encounter.
Thanks to the Convention Hall of La Habana City and to the Jurists Union of Cuba for having trusted  the World Mediation Forum.

About the Forum.-

The World Mediation Forum was thought in 1993 in the International Conference of Ireland, especially by Mrs. Barbara Wood, and had its concretion  in the Founding  Act  subscribed in the I Conference at El Escorial in 1995 , having been  created during the necessary time to incorporate the By-laws, the World Mediation Forum Foundation in Holland,. The incorporation to the Spanish Law has been given  recorded under the  Nº 163.749 of the Civil Associations Record of the Spanish State, thus  fulfilling  one of the  Secretariat objectives of 1995.
 

HOUSING
They have been chosen by the organizer the hotels related  below are taking into account their nearness, contort and promotional prices for the participants.

Housing includes 7 nights/ given eight/ breakfast/ transportation in -out/ specialized guide service/ assistance in the airport and during your stay.
To obtain information related to housing and transportation you can contact directly to anyone of the Agencies linked to Convention Hall of La Habana.

If you wish to travel through the services of any other Agency that is not related  in the Convention Hall supplied information, be sure to get  included transportation to and from the hotel to the Convention Hall , or consider the possibility of renting a car upon arriving.

The visa will have to be applied  through the Official Agency or the one of your election.
 
 

REGISTRATION FEES.
Before of the October 15, 1998 ptas. 52 500  (US $ 350,00)
After  the October 15, 1998 US$ 450.00 or its equivalent in pesetas 67.500.
The associates of the Forum will have a discount in anyone of the two cases of 50.00 U$S (associates before the 30-9-1998)  (How to become a member?)

Form of payment:
Payments  before  the November 15th, 1998 must be sent in any of the following form:

Papers should be send before October 30th, 1998, on a 3.5 inch diskette (1.44 mb) or by email prefereably in Word 6.0 or any standard Word Processor, including a copy an A4 sheet of paper .
Presentations will be 20 minutes long. Submited papers may, however, be longer but the time limte should be respected in all cases.
