<html> Topic 5

Putting the hyper into hypertext

This week's goal:

The ability to create links from one web page to another is what puts the "hyper" in "hypertext." This week you will master : how to insert links on your web page, how to distinguish "absolute" and "relative" links, and how to organize and display your links.

What to do this week:

1. Read Dave Ragget on HTML 4 chapter 7 or information about links in the text of your choice. If you need to see the material explained another way, visit the "Resources" or "Readings" links below.

2. Visit the highlighted links below about <a href> for some comments about links. The comments do not repeat the material in the book, but raise some questions about organizing and displaying links.

3. Try the quiz if you want to check out what you know. You will not be graded and do not need to send it in. It is only for your own use.

This week's submission

4. Complete the submission and post it on your web site.

5. If you have problems doing the assignment, post your question to the ListServ with the subject of your message marked "Please Help with Topic 5." If you can answer a question posted there, please do.
