Quebrada Quintero (low path) - Introduction

Level: P+

Where is it: In a deep valley east of Loma Serrano (Serrano Hill) of El Avila National Park, in front of Urbanización Altamira (Caracas city). You will find track start at 10th Transversal de Altamira, between 2nd and 3rd avenues. When you get to Ranger House - Cota Mil, you have to take the road at your right (east).

Description: This is stroll shares the first part with the one leading to Sabas Nieves and Quebrada Quintero (high path). Compared with those, this one is little used, but without doubt is a lot more nice. It goes upstream the creek taking you pass 5 different falls.

Even though it is not very demanding, it was classified P+ (instead of P like high path) because there are some places where you have to climb over slippery surfaces. I don't recommend you to bring small children nor elderly people, because they may get baddly hurt if they fall. Also, this path it is not recommende if it is raining.

When you get to Quebrada Quintero you can rest hearing the fall, under a thick canopy of trees. Almost all road is shadowy, so you don't need a hat or cap (unless you come walking from Plaza Altamira).

How to get there: It is easy. You have several choices:

  • Metro to Plaza Altamira (Altamira Square).
  • Bus to 9th Transversal.
  • By car: Using Cota Mil (not recommended) or 10th Transversal.
  • Walking.
Anyway, the key is to get to Plaza Altamira (really, Plaza Francia) and start from there.

Time: From the beginning of track (10th Transversal) to main fall it will take about 15 minutes. If you come walking from Plaza Altamira, add another 25 minutes.
