The McNabb Family

In tracing the line to Frances Mildred McNabb Gray, we will start with Patrick McNabb, who was born in Stirling, Scotland about 1708. This is as far back as we can go at present. (See the Frances Mildred McNabb Gray Ancestor Chart which goes back eight generations and includes Patrick McNabb as #M128.)

The first of Frances's line to come to America was Patrick's great grandson. John McNabb III was born in Menstrie or Falkirk in Perthshire. His future wife Margaret Morrison was born in Southend in Argyllshire. The two came to the United States at different times and met in Ohio where they married in 1842. Two of their children founded the town of McNabb, Illinois. (They were John Morrison McNabb and James Archibald McNabb.)

To trace the McNabbs from Scotland to the United States and their activities there, follow these links which include biographies:

Donald Oliver McNabb and Elsie Gladys Lundquist

"Tracings"

A document of particular interest to this branch of the McNabb family is called John (1) McNabb. Tracings from Reccolections [sic] of John (2) McNabb, his son now seventy nine years old past, taken by J. (3) McNabb in March 1872.

This document was written by John Morrison McNabb, one of the founders of McNabb, Illinois, and son of John McNabb III and Margaret Morrison.  The document begins with the birth of John McNabb II in 1768 and reveals interesting information about some of the family. It is transcribed from a handwritten document, most of which was written by John Morrison McNabb, but some of which was added later.
