The Four Cycles

The history of Rialos is figured in Cycles. The current year is the ear 30, Fourth Cycle. Each Cycle starts over after one of the Drow Wars. Every thousand years or so, the Dark Elves emerge to conquer the surface kingdoms. So far, they've been repelled four times, but every time it seems a little bit harder, and things are a little bit closer.

The Third Cycle
The Third War didn't come as much of a surprise; It was almost expected. The armies of good were ready, and marched out under the banner of King Corman of Utar and his son, Prince James. The Keeper had long ago passed on, and his apprentice, an elf and the king of Redforest, Erezor, had taken his place. Erezor, in turn, had been training James as his apprentice.

However, in the course of the war, the king and his son were both slain. To make matters worse, the Dark General, who was now known as Zagrantis, had returned. Just when things seemed darkest, a hero rose up. A man who was half Iynysyn, Called Ravon of Darkforest, or Ravon the Mad,
took up the banner of Utar. He proclaimed himself king, and had strong allies to back him up.  The Keeper himself condoned it. Among his allies were Teldar, Gilok, and Elgon, Erezor's sons, the princes of Redforest. Also on Ravon's side was a priest of Orin named Clarin, and a number of others, all loyal and good. They kept him from making too many mistakes, yet served him well.

Ravon won the war, and at the same time ended the threat of Al-Marosa by conquering it and taking it as his own. Utar fell to the hands of a distant relative of the old king, Corman II. Other cities sprang up, and the old rulers of Al-Marosa founded another city, this time making war upon their old home. Ravon defeated them again, Claiming the entire desert as his own. Darkforest, the haven of the Iynysyn, was destroyed by the Keeper, and the scar where it had been remained for centuries.

The Iynysyn, during the course of the war, had managed to conquer the entire Eastern Plains, and had named it Daedor, which means "Shadowland". It was retaken later on by Ravon and his allies. At the end of the Third Cycle, Rial decided to test the world. He stripped all mages and clerics of their powers, and even weakened the gods themselves to mortal strength. Once again, the gods could be killed. They didn't waste any time, and immediately began battling amongst themselves.

The Keeper, Ravon, and several others were present as well. Zagrantis and his henchmen, called the Six, were also there. The Keeper killed Zagrantis,
while Ravon and the others killed the Six. The gods fought a great battle. All but two of the gods of good were slain, and the evil ones were brought down to only one god. Just as Orin was about to deliver the death blow, Rial stopped him.

He commanded the last of the Dark Gods to
go, and he healed the two remaining gods of good, Orin and Kamor. Kalen had also survived, by being outside of the battle and remaining neutral. He then created 6 new gods to replace those who had died. He restored the world to normal, placed Ravon and his party back in Utar, and changed their memory of the events. No one knows the name of any of the dead gods now,
with the possible exception of the Keeper, who is alive, even today.
