ALL ARE THE PROPERTY OF PARAMOUNT STUDIOS.

T`Lani
A star with at least three planets, at most an hour from Deep Space Nine
in a Runabout and within simultaneous subspace communication range.
Its third world was decimated by war; another is home to the native
space-faring T'Lani race.

T-Rogorans
Origin: Gamma Quadrant. A Gamma Quadrant race who ruled the Skreea
for 800 years and killed the matriarchal people's leaders until they in turn
were invaded and conquered by some "member" of the Dominion -- likely
the Jem'Hadar, the Dominion's storm troopers.

Tagans
Planet: Tagus III. By law, these spacefaring natives had sealed off the
famous ruins of their world to outsiders' research by 2267. The adjective
form, as with "Betazoid"/"Betazed," is "Taguan."

Takarans
Planet: name unspecified. A Federation-area humanoid species with
slightly reptilian-like features and a disseminated internal physiology which
protects against bodily harm unless done on a cellular level. This same
physiological quality makes it possible for Takarans to simulate death for
prolonged periods of time.

Talarian hook spider
Planet: Talarian homeworld. A species of indigenous arachnid, apparently
with legs that grow to a half a meter in length.

Talarians
Origin: Alpha Quadrant. A humanoid, spacefaring species whose space
bordered the Cardassians and Federation. They fought non-threatening but
bloody border wars with the UFP as late as 2357, but have been at
nominal peace since; entry into each other's space is not seen as an
automatic act of war. One of their customs is the adoption of the sons of
enemy commanders killed in battle.

Talarians
Garak in talking with lunch-mate Doctor Bashir refers to a fellow diner
across the Replimat as a Talarian, but he is mistaken -- it's a Kobheerian.

Talaxians
Planet: Talaxia. Normally the physiology is totally different from all others
on the ship with an immune system which would reject any organ donors
outright, but Vidiian immunogenetical knowledge allows an Ocampa lung
from Kes to be easily adapted. The respiratory system is directly linked to
several points along the spinal column. One has been in the Avery III
Vidiian mines for six years, the last of his 23-member crew alive.

Tallonians
Alpha Quadrant race whose Tallonian crystals are illegal anywhere but on
their world.

Talosians
Planet: name unspecified. Humanoids dependent upon illusion; their
civilization was nearly wiped out by war thousands of centuries ago. They
are only now beginning to rebuild.

Tamarians, a.k.a. "The Children of Tama"
Planet: Tamarian homeworld. Humanoid race whose seven friendly
overtures to the UFP over the 100 years prior to 2368 were thwarted by the
inability to communicate; in fact, Tamarians remained to be considered by
some as just rumor or legend. Finally, after an encounter in which Capt.
Dathon gave his life fighting a native beast on El-Adrel IV, Starfleet's
Captain Jean-Luc Picard realized the language -- which had been
processed by the universal translator into meaningless phrases -- was
based on metaphor: narrative imagery using reference to the people and
places of their mythic history. It is now understood that image is
everything to Tamarians, embodying their emotional states and thought
processes; they possess an unusually high ability to abstract and an ego
structure that does not foster self-identity. Their plain uniforms are rich in
insignia, which are used in a simple ritual when going to bed, and each
officer wears a small ceremonial dagger. Both genders appear to have
social parity.

Tanugans
Planet: Tanuga IV. Space-aware, technological humanoids distinguished
mainly by Vulcan-like upswept eyebrows and two to three successive
V-shaped ridges on the forehead that echo the brow line. In 2366, both
genders prefered stiffly upswept hairstyles.

Tarahongians
Planet: name unspecified. A people (pronounced "tair-uh-HONG-ee-uns")
who are naturally gullible -- at least according to Quark, who shrugs off
Grand Nagus Zek's praise at selling their unwitting government two
defective warp drives with his cousin Barbo, whom he later turned in to the
authorities. They do practice imprisonment as a criminal punishment.

Tarchannens
Planet: Tarchannen III. Non-sentient humanoid race, frightened by normal
light and visitors who are visible to humanoid eyes only under ultraviolet
light. Their species propagated by using a DNA strand implant in an alien
host's thymus to reproduce via genetic metamorphosis, which can take
years to gestate. The onset of symptoms can vary in time from days to
only an hour.

Tarellians
A humanoid, spacefaring race believed extinct in the aftermath of a plague
until a band of eight aboard a small ship showed up at Haven in 2364
seeking an isolated site to take advantage of the planet's supposed
recuperative powers. They were joined by Dr. Wyatt Miller who hoped to
finally find a cure.

Tarkassian razorbeast
Origin: unspecified. A creature which Guinan described as her own
imaginary friend in childhood.

Tavnians
Humanoid, spacefaring race who belived in the strict separation of the
sexes by law, raising their children by the same-sex parent only and
keeping them ignorant of the other gender until age 16. Their law provides
that a son is property of the mother's new husband, however, in the event
of a "divorce" -- which is accomplished only by the ex-spouse's
acceptance of the new suitor's verbal declamation of love to the mate.

Teldarians
Although LaForge's memory of hopping a ride on a Teldarian cruiser with
his shuttlepod to catch up with the Enterprise was a false one implanted
by Romulans, it is apparently not an unusual occurrence.

Tellarites
Planet: name unspecified. A humanoid species distinguished by a
porcine-like snout, stout build, deep set eyes and a characteristically
irascible disposition.

The long-time United Federation of Planets members, pig-faced in
appearance and antagonistic by nature, have had freighters at space
station Deep Space Nine as recent as stardate 47603. Someone in the
crew apparently was in league with Quark's wanted cousin KONO.

Tellurians
Spices from this Federation-area culture were being offered by Kivas Fajo
to a group of Andorians in 2366.

Teplanites
Planet: Teplan. Presumed name for the population of the Gamma
Quadrant world, fomrerly technologically active until defying the Dominion
and falling vicitm to an agonizing, slow-moving viral disease called the
Blight that the Jem'Hadar unleashed in response. In 2372, Dr. Bashir
offered hope by fostering a complete cure in the next generation of
newborn Though humanoid, the Teplan natives' neurophysiology is very
different from humans, Trills and Bajorans, among others.

Terellians
Space-faring race involved in commerce, which apparently has four arms.
Terellian freighters are common or at least seen near Lyaar. Terellian
spices can be combined with roots to create broth.

Three Terellians bragging about their Dom-jot prowess are set up for a
game by Nog with he and Jake -- a date Jake wanted to break to see his
then girlfriend Leanne. Alternately spelled Terrelians: some were visiting
space station Deep Space Nine during Chief O'Brien's time-shifting
episode.

Terrans/2
Planet: Mirror Earth. The mirror universe name for humans, after the Latin
name of their planet. After the conquest of their once-feared empire by the
Klingon-Cardassian alliance sometime after 2268, many are made slave
laborers in ore processing or other menial jobs; a few got preferential
treatment, such as Ben Sisko's marauders and Dabo girls, but they were
certainly not allowed to train in careers such as medicine. As they earned
trust, laborers were classified according to a Greek letter system rising to
theta from lambda, at least; a four- digit number preceded the Greek letter.
At Terok Nor, a new Terran Rebellion was sparked by rebel captain Ben
Sisko and "Smiley" O'Brien thanks to influence from the "normal" reality;
their crew eventually convinced other collaborative humans uch as Dr.
Jennifer Sisko to abandon their aid of the alliance, and eventually they built
a mirror U.S.S. Defiant and liberated the station as a bastion for the
Rebellion.

Thasians
Planet: Thasus. An advanced, intelligent, noncorporeal race of beings, first
encountered on stardate 1533.6 when they made contact with Captain Kirk
to retrieve a young humanoid they had given special powers to.

Tholians
Origin: Tholian space. A highly advanced sentient -- apparently crystalline
species, non-humanoid in appearance and extremely territorial in
disposition. They hail from a hot planet by Human standards, probably not
class M. Together, two Tholian ships can literally spin a web of energy in
space in order to trap an enemy vessel, after which the web is then drawn
together, constricting and finally destroying the vessel inside. On stardate
5693.2, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 made first contact with this
species.

Tholians are a hive-mind and known for their punctuality. One of the
independent border races that could have been dragged into a Klingon civil
war, due to their proximity.

During a period of renewed conflict with the United Federation of Planets
(UFP) 12 years ago (2253 ), they attacked a starbase and killed the entire
complement -- except civilian advisor Karl Riker, who refused to give up
survival. In a battle simulation during his Academy days, Riker figured out
the sensory blind spot of a Tholian ship and hid there.

Tensions have eased enough for the Tholians to send an ambassador to
space station Deep Space Nine.

Tin Man
Starfleet's code name in 2367 for the sentient, ancient and lonely "organic
starship" found by the Vega 9 probe orbiting the near-supernova Beta
Stromgren; its native name is "Gomtuu". Possibly of extra-galactic origin,
the pinecone-shaped being was bred or self-adapted to symbiotically
house carbon-base life with its interior chambers and corridors, but its
crew died in an explosion. Now lonely, it chose to die in Beta Stromgren's
stellar catyclysm as empath Tam Elbrun joined him, happy at last, after
the Enterprise had brought the misfit Betazoid to woo the being before it
could be captured or killed by the Romulans who claimed the sector where
it was found. Once there were millions of its kind, but "Tin Man" had not
seen one for millenia. Still, it was immensely powerful; a shock wave
imploded an attacking Warbird, knocked out much of the Enterprise
sensors, computer and shielding, and later pushed the starship some 3.8
billion km away. It didn't respond to linguacode or universal translations,
requiring mind-to-mind contact and initiating the telepathic contact with
Elbrun.

Tosk
Origin: the Gamma Quadrant. A reptiloid race, bred by unspecified
eugenicists to enjoy being hunted and provide as exciting and interesting a
chase as possible. They live only to outwit their Hunters until they die with
honor eluding capture -- although they still take an oath of silence to
outworlders about the process. In contrast, the greatest humiliation they
can know is to be captured and brought home alive -- kept on public
display, humiliated by food throwers -- while going AWOL from the Hunt
would be an even greater dishonor.

Traveler
Planet: Tau Alpha C. A single member of a humanoid species,
distinguished by a very enlarged cranial size and the ability to "phase."
The Traveler is highly advanced and has the capability of using time,
space, and thought alone to travel unimaginable distances.

Tribble
Origin: unspecified. A small alien animal characteristically soft, furry, and
pleasing to most humanoids (save to Klingons, who do not like them).
Tribbles give off a soft purring sound that is soothing to many. They are
also asexual, born pregnant, the only determinant of birthing being how
much food they consume. The Federation first encountered tribbles on
space station K-7 on stardate 4523.3.

Trill
Planet: Trill. A unique "joined race" whose humanoid members have
provided host bodies for small soft-bodied entities in a symbiotic
relationship; Among the humanoid Trill joined species, apparently at least
two races of hosts are used to house a symbiont: those of the ridged
forehead, like Odan, and those like Jadzia, Curzon and Selin, with a
narrow speckled band running along the hairline to the sides of the neck,
then down along the body.

The symbiont body is a foot-long purplish lump of cranial and exoskeletal
tissue, some are susceptible to damage by transporter beam. At Peliar
Zel, the Trill can have a replacement body on hand for Odan in 40 hours;
he will last only 1-2 hours in stasis, and a human body makes a temporary
but limited host.

Since the symbiont integrates each new host's personality with its own
after joining, Trill relationships are often hard for single-unit species to deal
with and sometimes don't survive the change. Aside from the exceptions
like Curzon, Trills are usually very responsible and moderate or reserved in
personality; the symbionts don't seek romance and try to adhere to a
"higher plane," feeling it a nuisance and a weakness of the young --
although the host body occasionally indulges, as Curzon and Odan did.
The symbiont does carry memories of time shared with each of its hosts,
and each new combination -- aside from gender, height and weight --
carries a different blood type, metabolism, nervous system, and brain wave
pattern. The complex brain carries two cerebral nuclei -- one in each being,
linked together -- whose brain wave patterns can each be scanned
separately as well as together. The two are biologically interdependent; at
93 hours after their joining, neither can survive without the other. Legally,
the joined race is a tangle for Science Officer Dax's extradition arbiter
Renora, since records of any legal and medical decisions regarding
antecedent host culpability are almost nonexistent. A Trill host's hands
feel cold-blooded to the touch; their more overtly developed senses include
identifying a known individual only by the audible rhythm of footsteps.

Trill physiology may be the reason why Science Officer Dax is the first of
the Deep Space Nine senior staff to show symptoms of the alien telepathic
archival matrix. The humanoid host species' unruly children are not above
throwing rocks at windows, just like their Human and Bajoran
counterparts, at least. To others, Trill may seem arrogant side. Only one
Trill in 10 is chosen to be joined to the "thousands" of symbionts, but
those not joined still lead normal, productive lives. The brains of hosts
produce endorphins as in the human brain. Thousands of symbionts live on
Trill. Joined Trills are allergic to insect bites, since the biochemical
connections of the symbiont and host can't tolerate the toxins. As seen
with Jadzia, they are more resistant to a noxious paralyzing volcanic gas
found on planet LS VI than other humanoids such as Bajorans. Among
outworlders, they have been in contact with Klingons at least since 2289.

Judging by the Belar brothers, a Trill's lineal or family name follows the
given name, as is done on Earth, but a host drops his lineal name in favor
of the symbiont's. Renhol and others at the Symbiosis Commission worry
that the symbionts would be bartered as commodities if the truth were
known that half the population could be hosts, rather than the 1-in-1,000
ratio officially quoted and the reason behind the rigorous selection and
training program. Social role equality seems apparent among the
population, at least in medicine, with doctors and nurses of both genders.

Trunkheads aliens
Planet: unspecified. Commonly seen in Federation faciliities such as DS9,
A dull brown-skinned race with a pointed upswept ears and a long,
trunk-like fleshy protrusion from the back of the skull with a few large dark
spots, often draped over the shoulder.

Tygarians
A major space-faring race, distinguished in appearance by green scaly
skin and two blunt horns at the forehead, whose natives frequent Deep
Space Nine. One of its freighters, the Nanut, is due to leave DS9 for a
two-year stay in the Gamma Quadrant in early 2370. A typical name is
Romah Doek.

Tzenkethi
Planet: name unspecified. A people who engaged in border wars with the
UFP during Sisko's posting as XO on the U.S.S. Okinawa under Leyton. In
2371 its dictatorial Autarch leader was overthrown by a coup. At least one
world is M'kemas III.

Ullians
Planet: name unspecified. A humanoid race, distinguished in appearance
by lightly upswept eyebrows and a rough-textured membrane that covers
the top of the ear and melds flush to the head. Some can telepathically
retrieve the hidden memories of other humanoids after years of specialized
and intensive training. Using this skill, the people have embarked in
amassing a library of history that is researched by retrieving personal
memories of many worlds' individuals. Fellow telepaths can monitor each
other, and often do out of fear of what has been termed "telepathic memory
intrusion," considered to be akin to rape in their culture.

Valerians
Origin: unknown. This humanoid space-faring race of the Alpha Quadrant
delivered weapons-grade dolomide to the occupying Cardassians on Bajor
and were suspected of still doing so in 2369 at DS9, soon after the
withdrawal, although they also traded with the Federation.

Valtese
Planet: Valt Minor (or just Valt). Humanoid race who, judging by
Chancellor Alrik in late 2368, are much shorter than their Kriosian cousins
but in the modern era are less sentimental as a culture. The races do
share a dark-spotted skin pattern along the hairline and down the neck and
spine, not unlike the majority species of Trill hosts.

Vanoben
Planet: name unspecified. The otherwise nondescript home (pronounced
"van-NOBB-un") of a transport ship raided only 2 light years from Deep
Space Nine, when an artifact similar to one being offered by the Miradorn
twins was stolen in 2369.

Velarans
Planet: Velara III. Microscopic, intelligent one-celled life-forms living in the
fragile subsurface saltwater layer of its homeworld. Discovered by a
terraforming team that had disrupted their environment by 2364, the
entities' components include silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide,
cadmium, selenide sulfide, water, impurities, and sodium salt.

Ventaxians
Planet: Ventax II. Once-technological humanoid culture who retreated to
an agrarian society a millennia ago when political and social reforms
ended wars, famine and ecological disasters; they still shied away from
modern technology even after Klingons opened them up to outsiders in
2297. Their theology held that the reforms were sparked after leaders
literally sold out for prosperity by signing a pact with "the devil," Ardra, but
aside from considering her name unlucky to speak aloud the people lived
uneventfully. They panicked in 2367 when a con artist posing as Ardra
returns to claim "her" planet until the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D crew
successfully revealed her fraud; Captain Picard pointed out that Ardra may
likely have been a secret native ruse to help push the reforms. Although
agrarian, their capital city still featured tall pyramidal buildings and large
public walkways.

Verathans
Origin: the Gamma Quadrant. A humanoid race (pronounced
"vuh-RATH-uns") whose civilization reached its height 30,000 years ago,
spanning over two dozen systems interconnected with a highly developed
trade and communication network. Its artisans were also highly skilled; if
the race has died out its artifacts are easily dateable. Drolok was the
prima of the 19th Dynasty and wore decorous robes and tall Pharaoh-like
headgear, at least for ceremony.

Vhnori
Planet: name unspecified. Humanoid class 5 Delta Quadrant species not
yet advanced to space flight. Has a strong and well-developed belief in the
Next Emanation afterlife with a fleshed-out funeral ritual involving
thanatopolists and cenotaph coffins -- actually, a subspace vacuole or
spectral rupture, which occur naturally every six hours in thousands of
sites all over the planet. Survivors believe they will be reunited with loved
ones in the afterlife. Upon death the cell membranes break down into a
bio-polymer resin excreted through the skin and wrapping the corpse.

Vians
Origin: unspecified. A technologically advanced humanoid race with
enlarged cranial cavities, capable of injuring their subjects by magnifying
the power of their own thoughts. On stardate 5121.5, the Vians used the
crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 landing party as subjects to test
the worthiness of a species for survival in a threatened system.

Vidiians
Planet: name unspecified. A space-faring Delta Quadrant species known
as educators, explorers, and above all artists - until the phage hit them two
millennia ago. Thousands die each day, and organ harvesting is the only
way to survive; corpses are preferred, but in an emergency they may be
taken from a living body. As a consequence, their medical technology is
much higher advanced than the United Federation of Planets norm,
including immunogenicity. They are not familiar with holographic imaging,
and their power systems may use a dilithium matrix. A honatta helps a
patron find the appropriate organs. Despite the disease and lack of
conscience in this area, the culture somehow goes on: Motura is a
sculptor. The disease leaves them weakened, requiring slave labor to do
such tasks as mining.

Vok`sha
Planet: Rakella Prime. Natives who believe that hate is a beast which lives
within the stomach -- and their greatest mythical hero ate stones for 23
days to kill him.

Vorgons™
Origin: the future. A humanoid, leathery-skinned race. Two of its 27th
cenutry natives traveled back 300 years in time to supposedly reclaim the
Tox Uthat, a secret weapon they actually stole from its inventor in their
own time. These two, at least, employed a time/space transporter whose
control unit was a square-inch device set flush into the left side of the
skull.

Vorta
Planet: unspecified. The cloned humanoid species of Weyoun, Eris,
Yelgrun, Gelnon, Borath and others who served the Founders as the
administrators of the Dominion, field supervisors of the Jem'Hadar armies,
and envoys for client races such as the Karemma. They, like the
Jem'Hadar, serve the Founders without fail; Borath says "The Vorta serve
the Founders, in all things." Though created in two genders, they have
poor eyesight but excellent hearing. A Dominion warship crew's Vorta and
Jem'Hadar First are typically the only members of the bridge personnel to
be allowed access to data and monitor screens, via small holographic
eyepieces worn as a headset.

Vulcans™
Planet: Vulcan. A humanoid race, with copper-based blood, slightly
green-tinted complexion and notably pointed ears, the race responsible in
a large part for the founding of the Federation. Vulcans have developed a
culture dedicated to the complete mastery of logic, learning to suppress
their once-violent emotions in nearly every aspect of their existence. The
Vulcan Commander Spock served as Captain James T. Kirk's first officer
and science officer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 for many
years. At least one Vulcan has served as Starfleet Academy
superintendent, one who memorized every cadet's personal file, during all
or part of Commander Riker's years in 2353-57.

Ambassador Spock, realizing the irony of Data's search for humanity, tells
him that many Vulcans try all their lives to gain Data's built-in lack of
emotions. In ancient times, Vulcans were a war-like race, leading to their
near extinction. Its ancients believed in gods, such as war, peace and
death.

Chief O'Brien quotes a phrase when meeting Tosk he attributed to the
logical, pointy-eared Federation race: "We're here to serve." Their honest
and stoic nature makes them a bad choice for Nog's lie about who "stole
his homework." Commander Sisko's late captain on the U.S.S. Saratoga
was a Vulcan. Before the Vantika incident, Vulcans are the only race
Doctor Bashir knows of who have ever performed a synaptic pattern
displacement, or the transfer of one individual's consciousness into
another: in their case, the transfer of the katra. An unspecified Vulcan ship
is the first to make formal contact with a Gamma Quadrant civilization, the
Wadi. As with other space-faring groups, the Vulcans use an easily
identifiable subspace band frequency in communication. Over a hundred
years ago, a Vulcan science mission responded to the Hanoli rift but was
lost along with the Hanoli system when the rupture expanded while probing
it. There were no reports of imagination manifestations, perhaps not too
unusual considering their nature.

Vulcans are typically stronger than Humans though they do not boast of
this strength. Doctor Bashir beat an otherwise unidentified Vulcan in the
finals to lead the Starfleet Medical School team to the sector tennis
championship his final year ( 2368-69). Vulcans were brewing wines at
least 300 years ago circa 2070 -- or since before the United Federation of
Planets was founded. Sakonna's request for weapons blows away the
pacifist Vulcan stereotype for Quark. She's not the only one in the Maquis:
another is likely a settler on Volan III. Vulcan honesty is legendary, even to
Ferengi, but despite his crush on Sakonna Quark agrees to count her
Latinum payment for illegal Maquis arms anyway. Cardassian mental
disciplines may be a match for Vulcan's, although those of the other race
do not employ telepathy.

Vulcan IDIC pins are highly collectible and not usually available on Deep
Space Nine -- one of Quark's would-be expanded sales items by
inter-station monitor. Healer Senva is nominated for the Carrington Award
in 2371. The species is made up of many varied skin tones, including a
dark brown.

Lieutenant Tuvok serving on the U.S.S. Voyager is a full Vulcan, while
legendary Ambassador Spock is half Vulcan and half Human. The
Romulans are an offshoot of the Vulcan species.

Wadi
Origin: the Gamma Quadrant. Space-faring and game-loving humanoid
race (pronounced "WAH-dee") from an unspecified planet whose people
are the first formally known to be contacted from the Alpha-Beta
quadrants, at least through the Bajoran wormhole. A delegation arrived at
Deep Space Nine three weeks after a Vulcan ship made first contact in
2369. They value gemstones. Those seen are mostly tall with four or so
blue painted designs unique to each person on the forehead and right
temple; the males have straight long hair braided in back, the females' are
in upswept or short styles. They applaud by clapping the back of one hand
to the palm of another.

Wanoni tracehound
Planet: name unspecified. An predatory animal life-form rumored to take
great pleasure in the pursuit of its prey. On stardate 46925.1, Constable
Odo was heard comparing the romantically persistent Lwaxana Troi to this
species.

Wogneer creatures
A group in the Ordek Nebula, one of many that the faux-cadet Haro says
Picard has put his life on the line for.

Wogneer creatures
A group in the Ordek Nebula, one of many that the faux-cadet Haro says
Picard has put his life on the line for.

wormhole aliens
Origin: The Bajoran wormhole. Non-corporeal, non-linear telepathic race
who built the wormhole adjoining Bajor some 10,000 years ago and
worshiped by the natives there as "The Prophets" because of it and the
orbs they sent out as contact probes. They viewed humanoids as
aggressive, malevolent, and adversarial corporeals at first: use of the
wormhole disrupted their own existence, and they initially found
humanoids' tactile sensation, emotions, and linear existence of past,
present and future inconceivable. In their first contact with the Federation,
they took on human forms from Ben Sisko's memory to communicate and
understand linear corporeals. Their irritation over the wormhole's use was
short-lived, since the contact with Commander Sisko leads to an historic
agreement allowing Bajor oversight of the Gamma Quadrant tunnel.
Because of this exposure, they viewed Sisko as their "emissary" to the
Bajorans and in 2374 preserved his life -- and the entire Alpha Quadrant's
independence -- by defeating the entire invading Dominion fleet that would
have overrun it.

Xepolites
Planet: name unspecified. A humanoid, almost amphibious-looking
space-faring race (pronounced "ZEPP-oh-lights") that include traders who
often acted as go-betweens for the Cardassians -- as in running arms to
the Cardassian colonists in the Demilitarized Zone. A typical male name is
Drofo Awa, and the equivalent title of merchant captain is hetman.

Yaderans
Origin: Gamma Quadrant. As evidenced by their holographic recreations
discovered in 2370, this mostly humanoid and gentle people reflect Terran
norms, with distinctive architecture and a yen for light-colored clothing
fabrics. Their real forebears were overrun by the Dominion over 390 years
earlier.

Yallitians
Planet: name unspecified. A species with three spinal columns, known for
its engineers, and known to Neelix.

Yalosians
Planet: name unspecified. A spacefaring species which breathes an
atmosphere incredibly acidic and unable to see red or orangein the visible
spectrum. The visit by an ambassador of this species to Deep Space Nine
caused major refurbishing of his guest quarters, since his atmosphere
dissolves the room carpet and it had to be replaced.

Yelikans
Planet: name unspecified. Space-faring culture with a transport set for
departure from Deep Space Nine in 2370, when Minister Jaro announced
Kira's recall to Bajor.

Yridians
Planet: name unspecified. A race noted for its information merchants. Its
natives include Jaglom Shrek, Yranac, Yog, and the destroyer crew who
sold the secrets of Galen's DNA puzzle to the Cardassians as a new
energy source -- in transmissions overheard by the Romulans. They are
empathetically sensible, unlike Ferengi, Breen, and Dopterians. Natives
use disrupters as sidearms.

During the early crisis in the Demilitarized Zone, Commander Sisko
erroneously refers to these traditional information-brokers as the
go-betweens for arms deliveries between Cardassia and The Circle on
Bajor months earlier; he meant the Kressari. Not surprisingly, at the time
his tailor shop is bombed Garak owed money to a Yridian, known for being
information merchants. Constable Odo later had taken a Yridian smuggler
into custody and confiscated a bottle of an unspecifiedbeverage from him
as evidence.

Zakdorn
Planet: name unspecified. This spacefaring humanoid species desired to
be isolated in 2366 at first contact with the UFP, as some of its natives
were undergoing metamorphosis into noncorporeal creatures. Within four
years, at least some natives were involved with the Maquis on Volan III.
Among their technology, Zalkonians have developed a projectable
paralysis field that can strangle the crews of nearby vessels.

Zaldans
Federation race completely humanoid in appearance save for a webbed
membrane between the fingers. As a culture, Zaldans are infuriated by
courtesy, viewing it as a form of phony social behavior designed to
camouflage true feelings.

Zalkonians
Planet: name unspecified. A member of this species, which desired to be
isolated while some of its natives were undergoing metamorphosis into
noncorporeal creatures some four years earlier, is a member of the Maquis
-- as seen when Hudson interrupts Commander Sisko's return to the Volan
III council house

Zibalians
Kivas Fajo's race. Like him, painting the side of the face may be a
widely-held custom.
