What has Mummies Alive done for me ?
Well..... A few years ago I got a program called " Ancient Lands " . I became obsessed with Greek mythology . I turned up my nose at Egyptian mythology , as I felt it was an insult to Greek mythology . This all changed when a few months ago ( October '98 ) a show called Mummies Alive was broadcast on M-Net ( a South African broadcaster ) . Now ....... I have this stupid thing ........... with a T.V program , I often single out two characters and decide that they would be a perfect match . I instantly decided that Ja-kal and Nefertina would would be the perfect couple . But anyway , I soon decided that the show was great . Mummies Alive has caused me to make a web page , Hathor's Domain . Making the web page has been a fabulous experience . I've chatted to my parents about a trip to Egypt , and we might be going . Some day , I would love to become cartoonist . Maybe I could work on a new season of MA some day !
During the April month while drying my hair, I previewed a show called Mummies Alive. I thought it was another stupid kids show but due to the lack of good shows; I continued viewing it while blow drying my hair. After many weeks of viewing, this show somehow touched me. As pitiful as it sounds, I feel in love with one of the characters, Rath. He showed me that even inteligence was cool and somehow made it seem appealing. I stopped hanging out with that crowd and starting actually studying and making my own choices. All that from an annoying scribe! My grades improved profoundly, I went from a B student to a strait A student. This helped me so much the beginning of my junior year, and I hope it continues. My attitude has changed as well. Due to the fact I fell in love with a nerdy scribe; it opened my eyes to see that people are different and that's what makes them cool. People from my school starting noticing this change in me and now, I've become sort of an influence to lower classmen. I know I probably sound like a nerd, but drinking and smoking really isn't all that cool. Trust me on this, I've learned.
This community keeps falling apart more and more each month. I'd really hate to see this happen after all that it has given to me. If I ever do get elected homecoming queen next year, it's all because of this show. I learned to like myself better and the people around me. If you are reading this, I plead to stop the hatred and turn to one and other for support. This show has brought us together, the least we can do is return the favor.
From Silquio64:
This show kicks tut!!!!!!! Well butt but that's what they say in the show. I like the characters because they're so cool and even Nefer-tina's a hard-kicker! I like Ja-kal's armor and Armon's arm and Rath's magic and the cat can change too. But my favourite is still Nefer-tina. Girl Power! YAAAAAAAAA!!
From Smilie:
Yet another cartoon, yet another fan club. Not so, with this community.
It was during winter break when I first watched this cartoon show. I was not particularly interested in it at all at the time. I was simply procrastinating. I should have finished my homework and my projects before watching TV. I actually had no idea that one episode would swing me directly to the computer and start prowling for web pages for more information on the show.
Maybe one episode was an exaggeration. Actually I watched Mummies Alive the entire week before I got off the sofa and started searching for sites. The show itself did not suddenly instill a radical change in me to redo my course selection card to study Ancient Civ instead of Chemistry. Rather, the fan community that circled around the show had prompted me to take up some hobbies that I never even considered.
Take writing for example. Being an immigrant with little English skills, I avoided writing as much as possible. However, after reading several fan tales, I actually thought of writing a piece of fan fiction myself. Now, I take it as a hobby. My second example would be art. I had no interest in it before I saw the first piece of fan art simply because I had no talent in it (and I still can't draw). At least, now, I try.
This community has offered me tremendous innovative idea ad hobbies as well as numerous opportunities to meet new people. Procrastination may not have been such a waste of time after all.
From Jessy:
i havent seen the show a lot but it's really cool. i love that they have those big machines with the gold on themand that one of them can fly! i like that one the best. my favourite charater is presley because if he was real then i'd have a crush on him and we'd go out and i'd play with the mummy cat.

What MA Has Done For ME? Man that's a tall order to fill for such a small sentence . .what hasn't it done for me? I have been an avid historian of ancient cultures all my life. African, Greek, China, Japan, India, etc you name I studied. But there was so much to learn I sort of skipped Egypt because there was always something else at that time that caught my interest. Not that I didn't want to study Egyptology, just that it wasn't the right time for me to get into it. I always knew one day I would get around to it, but I disgress. That day came Sept 10, 1997 when Mummies Alive premiered. At first I thought---what is this? I didn't know what to make the show at first. It was well animated, cleverly written, the characters took some time to get to know, but I sort of snickered at the plot. This is what there putting on the airways--puhleese!!! But I kept coming back to the show. I didn't know why, I just did. Then I saw Dead Men Walking. I swear I fell off the sofa in hysterics when Rath hit the wall. After that I kept watching to see when Rath would screw up royally and he did. But he triumphanted as well. Next to him I like Nefertina, Armon, then Ja-Kal. Presley still gets on my nerves. Scarab and Anubis make for great bad guys you just love to hug ta pieces. After 43 episodes I was in heaven but sad that there were no more. Over the last two months I have gotten on line and discovered some great MA sites , read some hilariously good fan fics, met great folks who enjoy the show as much as I do and I'm having fun doing it. Writing my own fan fics I have researched Egypt to get my facts straight and the door opened up--big time. I feel in love with the culture. Next summer I'm planning to go to the Giza for real and it's all because of a cartoon. Thanks DIC and the wonderful people who made this show possible. Now all we need are more episodes.

From Cassie:
Well, Mummies Alive is (or was, sadly, since I heard it was taken off the air) the best tut kickin' cartoon! What else can I say?! It's really gotten me into, not only Egypt, but lots of ancient cultures, and even made me consider growing up to be an anthropologist someday (a person who studies ancient cultures....I think)! It's also led me to the SOMA community on the net, which is really cool and has lots of nice people, with great imaginations! Long live the Mummies! (er, so to speak)
From Chantal/Meccha:
What Mummies Alive! Has Done for Me? That's a pretty hard question to fill out. But anyway, I would answer.
At first, I was interested in Greek mythology only. I never knew Egypt mythology and I hated it! So obssessed with Greek mythology, I would spend day and night reading about Greece, that I myself wanted to go to Greece and study overseas! I realised I was going too far. But then when Mummies Alive! entered my world, I soon became interested in Egyptian mythology hence it was held in Ancient Egypt. Then, I would surf the Internet to find reference on the gods and goddesses based in the show.
And that was what Mummies Alive! did for me. It helped me know a lot of things about Egypt. Nowadays I still savor over Greek and Egyptian mythology but now at least I pay more attention to Egypt ^_^
From Randi Radio:
Before I got involved in the MA fandom, I didn't really consider myself anyone special. Sure, I'm good at a lot of things (or so I was told) but no matter what I loved or was talented at, there was always someone better. I told myself that being number one wasn't everything, but the thing was that I never got recognition. I was always second best in everything I did. Everyone is supposed to have their special fifteen minutes, so when would it be my turn?
One day, I discovered Mummies Alive. Whe the fandom on the Net came along, I took a chance and indroduced some of the humor I wrote about the show, and finally, it was my turn to shine. Now, I get complimented almost every day, and my confidence has soared. I finally have what I always wanted-recognition. This is my fifteen minutes. It may not last forever, but I'm enjoying it while it does. Thanx everyone!!!!!!!! @^_^@
From Shadra:
About a year ago, I was watching something on TV, and saw an advertisement for Mummies Alive! My first thought was, 'Ugh, what a dumb show.' That was my first impression. So, one day, I was sick at home, and decided to watch cartoons on the FOX network. Mummies Alive! was being showed right then... I think the episode was "A Dark and Screamy Night" or it might have been "Sleepwalk like and Egyptian", I really can't remember...
After I had watched the show for at least three weeks, I got interested in the truths about Egyptian history and mythology. In order to get some information, I searched the WWWeb and came across Brenna and Brittany's MA site, as well as Anubis' site. That soon brought me to Mia's site, which led me to the chatroom. I then met some nice people who promptly became good friends. MA has given me something to do, something to exercise my writing skills on, and has given me a good relationship with a lot of people. Overall, I think MA has changed my life for the better...
From Monica (Sekhmet):
I never really thought I would be REALLY obessed with a show like that, I mean I never really ever watched Tv much :::gasp::: yup it's true, I was more intrested in the outdoor world, the computer, games and the phone. I was planning to do a webpage on something else but when I saw Mummies Alive I changed my mind rather quickly.
I was always intrested in Eygpt and stuff and you know MA can be educational! I mean I was doing a myth exam on ancient eygpt and I totally forgot what the heck Maat and Set were gods of! Then I remebered Jena's GOTD story and MA Set was a god of the desert and ya da ya da yada! anyways and that gave me a tasty 20 marks! Giving me 97 percent! See? Okay let's see what else? Well my puns are getting better ^-^ or maybe not...
From Alice:
I've already gone through a few fandoms and on each, I felt like I couldn't contribute anything; write, make a web page, ect. Everyone else had done it and felt like I had to be cast aside and watch the fandoms pass over my eyes.
However, when I got to be a MA fan, I saw that the fandom wasn't cliquish. You guys may not know it, but we're kinda Bohemian -- we do our own thing. In the MA fandom, everybody feels like they can contribute. If you don't feel this way, trust me, you can. That, and I'm pretty much impressed by the number of people younger than me and without the benefit of a Myth & Folklore class that know more about Egyptology than me. Up with education =)
From Lyris:
One day, I was intrested with Ancient Egyptian Mythology. I found every single Egyptian book I had studied it before I go to bed.::Few months later, I was flipping through the channels and suddenly, I saw MA! It opened the portal to the new world. On my free time, I spend hours on the internet searching for Ancient Egyptian info.
From Anna:
I remember being fascinated with ancient Egypt (almost obsessive!) when I was about 11 or so, and I desperately wanted to learn more about their way of afterlife. My mom was greatly intrigued with this as well, so she offered me some help. When I reached 6th grade, the history lesson plan for that year was ancient civilizations....which meant the study of ancient Mesopotamia...which meant Egypt. I was the probably the most enthusastic in class, and everyone kept making fun of me because of it. Out of all the class, I got the only "perfect" score on the review exam. My mom was so proud of me, and as a reward, she took me to the special Egyptian Exibit at the downtown museum. About 3 or four months later, my mom passed away and I felt so alone. I completely gave up on my extraciricular studies on egypt - because i knew that i couldn't do it without her. I ended up practically forgetting everything i learned from that.
I found that I had no enthusiam over anything whatsoever. my whole 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grade years were, well...bad. until i reached 11th - I had nothing to do, so I ended up watching cartoons early in the morning. ghostbusters...beast wars...and i finally came upon a show called, "mummies alive!" so for about a month, i watched the show. and in the end, i was reminded of the days when my mom and i would spend so much time together on it. i laughed at myself. i was so obsessive. i decided to touch up my memory, so i went to libraries, bookstores - and finally the internet. i was surprised to find so many MA tribute pages, all the owners seeming fairly nice.
From Pheres:
MA has made a new me. At first I was a very sulky goddess. Life beyond the Western Gate is very boring most of the time. MA introduced me to the mummies.I was reborn(yeh, I know, it's weird but hey I didn't know I was a goddess) and I became a part of the team. So let's just say, MA SAVED MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
From Amazon3425@aol.com:
Taught me that Thin green Men are sexy..(Rath) Made me watch Ellis more carfully....(Rapses Bathelor party....E-Mail me if you want to here that story)Made me want to strangle Chontra
From Amanda Zizman (Isis):
Before I started to watch MA, I was rather lonely. Becuase I am a very shy girl, and I cannot make friends easily. I was very depressed and I hated life. Then, I discovered MA! I thought it was so cool, as I grew up on books about Egypt (thanks to my dad!) that I wanted to look it up on the 'net. Low and behold... I found the MA chat room and lots of sites! I went to the chat room, and I was kinda nervous, but when I got there I found out how nice everyone was! Pretty soon after I knew almost everyone and made lots of new friends! Now I am not as depressed and whenever I feel down I just head to the MA chat room!! And one more thing MA has done for me... introduced me to Rath... hehe and showed me there is a world beyond Final Fantasy 7!!
From Jen (Kalia):
Well, I might as well get the ball rolling! Alright, what has MA done for me...
First of all, and I think the most importantly, it's opened up a whole new world for me, one that seemed so dull and boring before the show came along. And that world was that of mythology and History. Yes, before the mummies came along I used to dread history class, but now (or, when school was still going) it was one of the best classes on earth! Without MA, I might have got a bad mark for the semester...
And as for the actual cartooning, let's just say
that I know exactly what career I want to do now. Animation all the way!
Hopefully, someday, I'll be able to work on a show just like MA, one of
the best ones of our time...
