Dani's Update Diary Page

The most recent is now at the top.

January 20,2000
I've been a bit busy for over a year now. I haven't updated my page as often as I would have liked. There's so much to let you know now. On June 2nd, little Peaches' body couldn't handle being alive anymore and she passed away. I was laying next to her the whole time, I wanted her to know that I was there for her. It was really hard, I tried so much to keep her well. In the end I knew I did all that I could, and then some. She knew I loved her.

So that's two wonderful cats I lost within 6 months of each other. But that's not all. At the end of August Ralph went in for teeth cleaning (his mouth was starting to stink). During the cleaning a lump was found on his tongue. It was removed, but a week later another lump was found. Shortly afterwards we were told that it was a form of cancer (I forget the name, I'll have to look it up), and it was aggressive. That's not the kind of news you want to hear, no matter what. Ralph did pretty good for a while. He was being fed by hand (he couldn't chew), and made a huge mess everytime. Sometime in October he stopped eating. With my (unfortunate) experience, I know once a sick cat stops eating they don't have much time left. I wasn't told right away that his pain had ended, but I do know now that it was necessary. He had a wonderful, long, eventful life. I miss him, but I'm glad he's not suffering.

On a much lighter note, I decided I wanted another kitty. So my boyfriend and I visited Ohlone Humane Society's Adoption Days a few times until I picked up this cute little black kitten. She stayed calmly in my arms while I held her. Then she licked my neck, so I adopted her and her sister. They are Zena and Callie. They are now 6 months old and full of energy. I mean that too. Sometime soon I'll scan the pictures I already have of them.

(I have to write all this down now while I'm thinking about it, or I might forget something...) For a while now my mom has been telling me about how she was interested in a "big fluffy cat." So I've been checking online for breeders of all different kinds for some simple information. We've been to a few cat shows before. The last show we went to (Dec. 19th), my mom bought a persian cat. Her name's Daisy. I haven't developed her pictures yet, so I will be working on her page too.

School starts in a week, so I don't know how much time I'll have to fix my pages. I have all these ideas in my head, but I'm really bad about getting those ideas on paper (or in this case, on screen!). Please be patient, I'll try the best I can.

Well, I have a bit of good news. The follow up x-ray on Peaches went well. Her left lung is no longer collapsed, and the growth has gone down. She is still on medication, and fighting me every time I try to give it to her. I caught her trying to catch her tail the other day; she's doing better. Sometime soon she needs another x-ray to see if she need to still be on the medicine. I am so happy with her improvement. I think she's happy that she can bug us durring the night again.

Well, I've had this web page for over a year now and a lot has happened since. I originally started this web page for my parent's cat Ralph. That was cool, but I still wanted a kitty of my own. So on March 7,1998 I adopted Frisbee. He was so incredibly cute, soft and cuddly. The end of September/beginning of October my boyfriend and I moved to a bigger place. I felt Frisbee might be bored or lonely. So on October 24, 1998 I adopted Peaches. The first day was a little rough for both of them, but they got used to each other. Shortly afterwards I noticed Frisbee had stopped eating (or ate very little bit), and wasn't himself anymore. I brought him into the vet's office when I noticed his back legs wobbling like they had no strength to hold his body up. His head was shaking too. We tried a few things to see if he would improve (wet food, medicine, blood tests....). Nothing really worked, he just got worse. On January 15, 1999 I had made one of the toughest decisions of my life, I had to let Frisbee go with some dignity. It hurt, but watching him suffer hurt even more. We never did find out what was wrong with him, maybe the eye infection was something big...

In this time Peaches has grown close to normal size for her age. She's still small, but I knew she would be. Just when I think things are okay with her, she gets sick - badly. I had heard her for a week having problems with what I thought was a furr ball. By Thursday March 4th she was gasping for air, sounding like she was also wheezing. I brought her to the vet who kept her for x-rays and she stayed overnight. I found out the next day that she had a collapsed lung. There was a growth near her lung that was also pushing up on her trachea, half the reason she was having troubles breathing. She's on antibiotics right now, which seem to be helping her. She's now breathing with her mouth closed, and she doesn't make as much noise anymore either. I'll find out in a couple days after another x-ray how she's improving and what roads we need to take to a full recovery. I almost lost her completely, now I have a chance at saving her. Please say a little prayer for my little kitten, she's only 6 months old. Also give your little kitties (and other animals) a little hug for me.

Okay, okay.....So I'm not that new at this anymore. Not bad considering I knew nothing about html before January of this year. Well, as some may have noticed I haven't really said much about Cleo on her page. You see we had her the least amount of time, and her unfortunate passing hit us somewhat hard.

Ralph is still doing fine, very furry but doing fine. In fact he's losing some fur around his head, but not the rest of his body. It's kinda funny really.

Frisbee is still a kitten, but is having problems with some kind of eye infection in his right eye. I've aready spent quite a bit of money trying to fix it. His blood work came back fine, so it's not more than an eye infection. Nothing else is wrong with him, he's active as any kitten could be. And boy is he active!!!

I'm still looking for my pictures of Cleo and Ralph, I have quite a few of them. They're still packed somewhere from when I moved a year ago. I just got out of school, so maybe I'll get the time to look!

I am new at this web page stuff, so please be patient with me. I have been learning many things along the way though. In fact just the other day I bought myself a scanner. :-) So now I'll be able to put more pictures on my pages quicker (especially since I now know how to use it!)

This page is a dedication to the kitties in my life, Mokey, Ralph and Cleo (and Frisbee too). I also have a brief moment for our Old English Sheepdog Abbey (whom my parents had before me!).
