Mokey came to us when she about a year old. Our next door neighbors had gotten her when she was a kitten. Her original name was "Smokey", but their 18 month old couldn't say the "S", so Mokey stuck. Unfortunately Mokey was abused by the kids, so she tried adopting us. It was awkward, we weren't cat people yet. We were dog people before this until Abbey (an Old English Sheepdog) was too sick to continue. Mokey was just a little kitten, and sometimes mean. She liked us even though we didn't feed her - at first anyways :) She clung to us for love. She eventually got pregnant, having Ralph and two other kittens, in OUR house!!! Ralph was the only kitten who survived. When he was old enough we adopted him, and Mokey visited constantly to watch after her son. When our next door neighbors were moving, they were going to put Mokey in the Animal Shelter. "Why?" we asked, "she's always at our place anyways!" So then we adopted her too.
We had them for almost three years when we realize Mokey was not doing good. We ended her suffering in the early part of '91 and miss her so. We believe she was infected with Kitty Leukemia. Before she passed on, she had come from being a mean kitty to a more relaxed mellow kitty. |
