Magnetic Applications to the Foot:

Horses with Navicular or Laminitis present a more complicated and challenging dilemma. (see glossary) Horses with sore feet, regardless of diagnosis, will benefit greatly from the use of magnetics. Here, application is just as varied as are the causes of soreness in the foot. Use of a bell boot which contains the long rectangular magnetic pad is one method you can try. Depending on the severity of the condition, you may want to try a combination approach. If the foot is extremely sore, an easy boot is your best bet.
Using a magnetic insole, measure and cut to the size of the entire hoof. Place inside of easy boot and install on hoof. ( Use of a preparation such as Coppertox, before application of easy boot, will prevent moisture build-up and the problems associated with it. )

If a more permanent application is desired, the magnetic insole can be attached to the foot by your farrier under a leather pad over insole and then shoe as you normally would.

Daily inspection of the hoof is possible if an easy boot is used, but inspection will be limited if the more permanent method of applying magnetics is chosen. Magnetics will remain in place until the next shoeing.

Using both the bell boot with the rectangular magnetic pad and the application to the bottom of the hoof with the magnetic insoles should only be used for the more severe foot problems where the horse is having a lot of discomfort. Try one method first and if the results are not satisfactory, then double your efforts and the benefits of magnetics by using a combination of both applications.
