PERTH, WA
Perth, Western Australia is located on the Indian Ocean at the mouth of the Swan River. It is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. The following pictures were taken on Jan. 26, 1999 which in Australia is Australia Day. It is the day that Australia was discovered in 1690 by the Dutch spicing ship Duyfken commanded by Willem Janszoon. The Duyfken 1606 Replica Foundation is now building an exact replica of this ship which I have many pictures of to share with you but that is another story and another page. Australia Day is celebrated much like our Fourth of July, with parties, games, a wonderful display of aerial acrobatics by Aussie pilots, and ending with a fantastic fireworks display which are fired off barges from the middle of the Swan River at city centre Perth. My friends and I took the cruise ship James Sterling up the Swan River from Fremantle to Perth and had front row seats for the fireworks. Actually we were on the back of the ship. I have seen alot of fireworks but have to say these were the most fantastic ones I have ever seen. Absolutely magnificent. Well enough talking and on with the pictures.
