Tele-Personals

USING PERSONALS TO FIND A MATE:

Many people will tell
you that they prefer searching for a
partner on the net or printed media
via personals over aimless visits to
the bar scene. I couldn't agree more.
However, there is a another angle I'm
not so sure everyone is aware of:
 TELEPERSONALS
 Q: WHAT ARE TELEPERSONALS?
A: Telepersonals is the method of
using a voice mailbox to leave a
discription of yourself and what
interests you. By calling a service, a
person can retrieve this message and
leave messages if they're
interested.

 Q: IS IT SAFE?
A: Yes, but like any other dating
service, you must use your common
sense. The other person has no way of
contacting you outside of the service
until you reveal information such as
your full name, age, schools attended,
phone number, and/ or address.

 Q: How is it different?
A: Hearing a persons voice is a great
tool to have. It's one thing to read
all about a persons wants and needs,
it's another to hear them. You can
tell so much more about a person by
the way they say things.

 Telepersonals is a safe and
hassle-free way to meet and get to
know someone. Some services are better
than others. The differences between
good ones and bad ones is easily found
in the search menu. The bad ones (my
opinion) are the ones with few, if
any, options. The good ones will let
you search the ads by category
(Dating= casual, Romance= long term,
Alternative= sexual) and age. Most are
local services so they don't usually
offer a search by location.

 TWO DIFFERENT TYPES
900 numbers (no, not the sex ones)
 Local Numbers

 HOW THEY WORK
Most "900" number dating services will
usually give you a toll free number to
record your ad and listen to others
for free. However,if you hear an ad
you like you must call a 900 number to
contact the person by leaving a
message. They, in turn, must call a
900 number to retrieve their message,
an to leave a response. Eventually you
get to know eachother and exchange
direct telephone numbers and it goes
from there.

Local number dating servces work a
little different. Most will let you
listen for free. It only costs you if
you want to reply to the ad. Some will
charge you by the reply and bill you
monthly. Others will let you purchase
a block of time in advance and deduct
your credits as you use them.

They're usually free to call and
listen to ads, or record your own.
Plus, by purchasing a block of time,
you can send messages or have a live
conversation with other callers while
they are "on-line". Some of these
services charge only the men and are
completely free for the women!

With telepersonals, you are likely to
meet the person you talk to faster
than someone you e-mail. After all,
you're already on the phone, the next
step, basically, is exchanging phone
numbers. If you're hesitant about
giving out your phone number then be
honest and tell them that. Don't let
them pressure you into giving out your
number by them saying it will save
them (or both of you) money. In these
cases, the best to suggestion I can
offer is to get their number and dial
a prefix when you call them so they
can't read your number over their
caller id.
