The day after James was discovered slaughtered, the air conditioning went out. Two days in the New Mexican desert with no A/C later, everyone was getting a little crabby. OK, so they were going bananas. It's understandable. Doibr was punched out by Stacey for quipping "But at least it's a dry heat." Ken woke up in a horrid mood on Wednesday, and booted Spinn in the nads just for the hell of it. Mollie and Cindy got in a brief but colorful fight for no reason at all that evening. So by Thursday, everyone had reached their boiling point. It was Cindy who finally blew up. She was walking down the hall, when she passed Ken. Their arms brushed. Cindy immediately pulled a knife from her back pocket and slashed him across the arm.
"Watch it, fucker!"
Unfortunately for Cindy, that was the same arm krizteen had pierced earlier last week with her pitchfork, and was healing rather slowly. In a blind fury, Ken backhanded her across the face, so hard she actually flew into the wall. He then drew his machete from his makeshift scabbard, hidden on his back under his shirt (Ken's a clever fellow), and hacked at Cindy. The machete cut through her collarbone on her left shoulder with the sickening noise of bones and tendons breaking. Cindy screamed and Ken tried to yank it out, but it was stuck deep. Cindy reflexively lashed out with her knife, and a split-second later was drenched in an explosion of blood. Ken didn't even realized his throat was slashed for a few seconds; she had to stick the knife in his face just to make him fall down. He fell over on his side and tried to crawl a few feet, gurgling in shock, but soon expired.
Cindy, meanwhile, staggered to her feet and wrenched the machete from her arm with a shriek of pain. The wound was bad. She was covered in Ken's blood, but it was clear to set apart the flow from the slash. Bits of bone were stuck amongst the gore on her shirt. She dry heaved for a few seconds, then staggered back to her room, leaning heavily on the wall. She went in, closed the door, and locked it.
It was Doibr who found the body. After puking several times, he enlisted Mollie's help in carrying the body outside.
As they were weighting Ken down, Mollie sighed and shook her head.
"God... the end of this thing is really getting close, isn't it?"
Doibr smiled. "Yeah." He pulled the knife from Ken's face. "Jesus, look at that. It was all the way in up to the hilt."
Mollie tied off Ken's waist. "Wonder if Cindy's gonna be OK? There was an awful lot of blood there for it to have ALL been Ken's..."
"Dunno." Doibr got down and his hands and knees, face to face with her. "Are you scared about "Wrath" ending?"
Mollie grinned affectionately. "Nah. I've got my plan. As long as people don't get TOO crazy, I'll be just fine."
Doibr looked at her. "We're SUPPOSED to be crazy here, Mollie."
And he plunged the knife into her chest.
Mollie was shocked and amazed. She looked at him and tried to speak.
"Bast... bast..."
She grabbed him by the throat and toppled him. By the time they hit the ground, though, most of her strength was gone, and he gave the knife a twist. She gasped, her eyes wide open, and died. A dark pool of blood grew beneath her in the hot desert dust.
Doibr left her there next to Ken and made his way back to the house, humming to himself.
