Submit or die!
Having exposure is the key for a succeful web site. First, I’m sure you know about the search engines cause that’s probably where you go when you search for something on the net. Think about it, if you go there to find something, imagine how many people go there every day! You might submit your web page in the most popular search engines (Yahoo, Alta Vista, Lycos, Excite, Hotbot, Web Crawler, Netscape, etc…) to get visitors but take care. These search engines will register your page title (the name you see on the button on the bottom of your screen when you open your page) as your web site name in their directory even if you wrote something else in their registration form. So you might have to write the right title in the html code of your page. These search engines also recieve a lot of registration forms every day so maybe they won’t add your web site the first time. If you sent your registration form a month ago, you should submit it again. Another thing you can do is to send different pages from your web site. As example, if your site talk about music like we do, you could submit your mp3 page, your MIDI page, your link page, etc…That way, your site will be in different categories of the seach engines. Another thing to consider when you submit your site is the keywords. These keywords might appear in the page you submit so choose related keywords to submit.
Now let’s talk about the FFA (Free For All). Those kind of sites expose a link and a description of your site for a specified time but there’s a lot of them on the net, and people don’t go there often when it’s time to find something. However, there’s a site on the net where you can submit your site to 1000’s of them at the same time, such as http://jimtools.com/ . You can also submit your site to many search engines on this site but they only take your url as information. Those kind of sites won’t give you many visitors but if you send your site to 1000’s of them, you’ll recieve visits from their webmasters and if your lucky, some of them will like your site and will come back after but something is sure, you’ll recieve a lot of webmasters visits that way.
Finally, there’s some other ways to get exposure for your web site. All you need is to have imagination and you’ll get it. You could try to submit your site for an award. If you win, the award site will add a link to your page on their web site and you could get some visits that way. Also, try to trade your link with other related web sites. That’s a good way to recieve visit from people searching your category of products or services. Good luck!
