Erica first met the dashing Dimitri Marick when he attempted a hostile take-over of her cosmetics company Enchantment The two battled it out on Market Street Week". After the show they met in private and bickered. Dimitri kissed Erica and their relationship began.
However Dimitri had a wife(although she had spent the last 15 years in a coma)and Erica didn't want to play second fiddle in a relationship. Dimitri continued to pressure Erica, but she refused to succumb to his charms. But that all changed when on a stormy night, Erica was driving from Pine Valley to New York. The inclement weather forced Erica to take refuge at a nearby hunting lodge where she came upon Dimitri. Erica told Dimitri that she loved him and they made love. Dimitri promised Erica that he would end his marriage to Angelique and they would build a life together, but Dimitri didn't have the heart to leave his ill wife.
Erica and Dimitri's relationship re-ignited again during their adventure in Budapest. Reporter Edmund Grey had come to Pine Valley where he had grown up. He was the son of Alf and Flora Gresham the servants to Hugo Marick. What he didn't know is that he was really Hugo's son. Only Angelique's mother Helga knew the truth. Helga burned the codicil to Hugo's will which proved he was Edmund's father and left Wildwind to him. But Edmund saw the codicil before it was destroyed. There was no love loss between Dimitri and Edmund. Dimitri refused to admit Edmund and he were brothers. Dimitri finally let Edmund exhume their father's corpse for DNA testing. Hugo's body was missing and Edmund blamed Erica and Dimitri. He ran off to Budapest to search for the truth. Erica and Dimitri followed. To force Dimitri to honor the wishes in the will; Edmund kidnapped Erica and held her captive in the wine cellar of Vadzel the Marick ancestral home. Dimitri refused to give in. Edmund released Erica and when she returned to Dimitri she was upset when she saw him in the arms of Angelique. Edmund and Erica teamed up so they could both get what they wanted from Dimitri. Dimitri finally gave into Edmund, but the crisis was far from over. Helga who would stop at nothing to make sure her daughter remained lady of the manor; locked Erica in a crypt which contained Hugo's missing corpse. Dimitri and Edmund cornered Helga on top of a stone wall. The old bat finally admitted that Edmund was Dimitri's brother before falling to her death.
After returning from Hungary; Erica was determined to not lose Dimitri. She faked amnesia and allowed Dimitri to pamper her. Edmund found out about Erica's scheme and told Dimitri who was furious at Erica. Edmund helped the two of them get back together and in March 1992 Dimitri proposed to Erica.
Erica's life changed forever when she hired a young woman named Kendall Hart to be her personal assistant. Kendall turned out to be Erica's daughter that she had given up for adoption. When Erica and Mona were on a trip to visit Erica's father Eric Kane; Erica was raped by an older gentleman a movie star named Richard Fieldsand became pregnant. When the baby was born; Erica decided to put the baby up for adoption. Dimitri invited Kendall to live at Wildwind. He would later regret doing it.
Kendall was determined to find her biological father, when Erica found out she wanted Kendall out of the house. Dimitri disagreed. Erica moved out of Wildwind and asked Dimitri for a divorce. Kendall wanting revenge on Erica; spent the night with medical student Anton Lang and ran to Erica and lied to her and said Dimitri had raped her. Erica was infuriated. She ran to Wildwind to confront her husband, but Erica started to hallucinate about the time Richard Fields raped her. Thinking Dimitri was Richard she grabbed a letter opener and stabbed him. Erica's trial for the attempted murder of her husband became the biggest news story of the year in Pine Valley. While on the witness stand Erica testified that she loved Dimitri and did not mean to stab him and leave him to die. She explained how she thought he was Richard Fields. But Kendall lied under oath and revealed that Erica stabbed Dimitri because he had raped her daughter. The little b*tch Kendall made Erica's life an even worse nightmare when she brought her father Richard Fields to town and showered him with love and devotion, but Kendall saw how horrible the man really was when he tried to molest Bianca. Kendall changed her testimony was sent to jail and Erica was set free.
