SWITZERLAND: GLIDING IN THE ALPS

There's nothing quite like the adreneline of flying beneath a large piece of cloth. When I dropped my mitten, I was a bit hesitant to try to take out the camera, but the feeling of flying was exhilerating. Hope you appreciate the poem that was inspired as a result...

A view from the sky

My New Friend, The Wind

The Wind, from it's home
in the breath of the Almighty God,
sneaks up from behind
and throws itself into my path,
gathering me into it's hold,
and carries me away
into a world that is not my own.

I am controlled and manuevered
by the mind of my new friend
the Wind,
who sails me away through the sky,
holding me in it's grasp
by a mere chute --
an element of paper
gripped by my friend, the Wind.

We sail together,
through the sky,
he and I
over the mountains --
over the monsters of the earth,
over the majesty of their grandeur.
We sail together,
conquering over the heights
of faith and fear,
laughing together in joy,
only to later cry in awe and regret
that we had to part --
that I had to return
to the world of drome
and he had to blow life into
the bones of another
fortunate member of my human race.

Someone else's dreams
will come true
and they will also come to
the realization that the wind
is our friend.

So blow, Oh Wind,

And go where you please.
And think of me
as you sail o'er the mountains and trees...
and Gravity holds me here.
