introduction

Malaysia is a country in South East Asia.

It has 14 states under her wings and basically divided into peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Come 31th August 1997, she has achieved 40 years of independence from the British rule.

We are a developing nation with sovereignity and pride and you can see the flag flying high in supremacy...right here! It was named "jalur gemilang" recenty during our 40th anniversary celebrations. The national anthem is called Negara Ku meaning "My Country" in English.

people

Malaysia is a multiracial country. The Melayu or Malays is the dorminant race with 55 per cent followed by the Chinese (30 %), Indians (10%) and others ( 5%). We believe in smart partnership and smart sharing among the races, sharing the country's wealth equally. We have learned through our own experiences and from other countries too that only this approach couple with a high level of tolerance among the races will ensure continuous harmony and stability to bring glory to our great nation.

politics

Malaysia practise democracy with a supreme royal parliamentary rule. The way we adopt and adapt democracy is according to our own situations and requirements. We don't believe in the so called total democracy which has proven to fail in many countries in the world. We don't believe in force and brutality. We respect every country in the world in terms of their sovereignity and we don't get involved in their internal affairs too. Freedom is allowed in my country but matters that don't contribute towards development of our country in terms of spiritual, physical, mental and social aspects usually take a back seat. We have a clear vision and hope to be a developed country in the year 2020. In this context, what we meant by a developed nation includes both material and values development.

religion

The official religion of Malaysia is Islam but any citizen is allowed to practise any religion or beliefs be it Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and others. What is important here is that we, Malaysians respect all religions, faiths and beliefs. This will ensure stability and harmony in our country.

culture

Being a multiracial, multilingual and multireligion country, Malaysia is rich in culture. The national culture policy states that the national culture of the nation is based on the Malay culture but others too can practice their own culture. This adds colour and flavour to our beloved country.

places of interest

Malaysia is a tourist heaven. Last year, over 8 million people from all over the world visited us. We have numerous places of interests ranging from the old flavour to the new ones. Every state in Malaysia has it's own places of interest and Malacca being a historical state is the best with full of museums.

Our mega projects has been able to attract a lot of tourists too. The Kuala Lumpur Tower (communications tower) is the most beautiful tower in the world

and the new Kuala Lumpur City Centre has been recognised as one of the future Seven Wonders of the world. The new Kuala Lumpur International will be ready in time for the Commonwealth Games to be held in September 1998.

The islands too are attracting a lot of tourists. The famous ones are Langkawi,

Tioman,

Pangkor and Perhentian. It's a heaven for anglers, surfers, snorkelers and scuba divers. The tourism industry is well supported by all kinds of hotels, shopping complexes, theme parks,

recreational activities, gardens and parks.

developments

Currently, Malaysia is undergoing a tremendous physical development phase. It's not wrong for me to say right now that we can find developments all over the country. Other than the new Kuala Lumpur City Centre project, the Bakun hydroelectric project and the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport projects, there are numerous development projects being carried out in all states of Malaysia. With the Light Railway Transit project, Kuala Lumpur will also be link to the cybercity of Putra Jaya to support the Multimedia Supercorridor (MSC). The MSC project is a major futuristic project well received by all giant computer companies including Bill Gates's Microsoft Corporation.

food

What you want to eat is all available in Malaysia! We have different cuisines originating from all over the world and the taste of all visitors are well taken care of. We have the local, oriental and western food, all in one. The local ones are satay, laksa, nasi lemak, roti canai, ais kacang, mee jawa and many, many more.

fauna and flora

Being near the equator, our climate of hot and wet supports the oldest tropical rain forests of the world. There are rich in fauna and flora and the National Park of Malaysia must be visited by everyone. There are a lot of green here and the flora provides the colour too. The fauna is also very attractive, be it wild or timid ones. Currently, we have at least four butterfly parks in Malaysia. All these make my country an enchanting one! Malaysia is like spring cum summer all the year round!
