Of the ten companies Composing the chapter the 1st Company consists of veteran troops and is the only one who's whole company uses the rare and treasured Terminator armour. When members of this company goes into battle they always use the terminator armour.
The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th are Battle companies, each consisting of 2 Bears and each Bear consisting of 3 Jaw (assault), 1 Hind (tactical) and 3 Paw (devastator) squads. The smallest battle group used is a bear, with multiple bears used depending on what is required.

The Chapters 10th Company is the scout company consisting of a number of Cub squads. Cubs are youths who have been recruited and partially transformed into Space Marines. Until their physical transformation and training is complete they fight as 'Scouts'. There is no formal size of the company as the rate of recruitment is not fixed.

When a person has been picked as a marine they enter the 10th Company and become scouts. Whilst here they are transformed into a marine and experience every type of combat that the Space Bears engage in. When a scout is ready to join the full marines, his battle record is examined and he is put where his skills can best be used:-

Once a marine has joined his bear he will progress to sergeant and veteran sergeant as he gains experience. Only sergeants and above are picked to join the 1st Company, but at any time a marine can join the Librarians and Chaplains if he is deemed suitable. Marines that have shown leadership skills can be promoted from Veteran Sergeants to Senior Veteran Sergeants who will become the next Captain of the Company.
Although the 10th Company is called the scout company it also contains full marines who are no longer attached to a battle company or have never been attached like snipers.
