In the year 2000, a meteor struck earth. The Second Impact as it was come to called, killed half of the human race, and literally rearranged the whole planet. The impact was believe to be caused by creatures called the Angels. 15 years later, these beings return once again to earth. It send waves of attack upon a fortress called Tokyo 3 that was build to protect what was remined of the humanity. Under this fortress, a secret organization called NERV, operated. NERV is an society that is into the study and fighting the Angels, formed by the United Nations. In their secret base, units know as the EVA, giant robots that are the only means of defense against Angles. But only 14 years olds with certain traits can control.

The story begans when Shinji Ikari, one of the going to be Eva pilots arrived at the command of his father just in time to expreiance the 1st Angle's attack. Created by Studio GAINAX, the whole anime is filled with amazing affects and great music. Although the while anime seem to be fighting all the time, it is actually deeper than that. It is very ironic that the bad guys, the Angels, are called Angels. Angels are supposely the messangers of god. which means that if they are send to destory human kinds, can god be the one who wants the humans destroyed after he/she can't eliminate the human race after the meteor just like to what he/she did to the dinosaurs.
