Financial Training Needs Analysis

In our   September   issue, we talked about depreciation and concluded that companies do NOT enjoy a tax advantage just by lowering their reported profits through higher depreciation charges if it operates solely in Singapore.

Managers would increasingly need to understand better the financial impact
of their actions as the market gets more competitive. Many companies are churning out sales volume but failing dismally to make any profits. It can be
a serious handicap if you or your executives remain financially illiterate.

Finance baffles most people. Many excutives often don't know   what   they should know and are thus unable to articulate their training needs. We have designed a Financial Training Needs Analysis questionaire to assist you. We hope that you find it useful in   assisting   you   identify your executives financial training needs.

We will be conducting a   2-day   FINANCE   FOR   NON-FINANCIAL   MANAGERS"   seminar on October 24 - 25 (Thursday & Friday) at the Holiday Inn Parkview. Why don't you drop by and browse through the
course outline
. Do swing by to check out the   many   glowing   written
references
we have received from multinationals for whom we have conducted the programme.

Cutting Communication Costs with your Overseas Subsidiaries

Don't you wish you could have interactive real-time communication with your overseas executives without paying a small fortune in IDD charges? Well, fret no more, the solution is already technically here. There is now a hardware/software package called CyberChat which would enable you to TALK to your overseas executives over the Internet and pay only the inexpensive local ISP time charges instead of the long distance IDD charges !

Apparantly the current CyberChat Version 4.0 requires Windows 95. However, good news is on the horizon for those having only Windows 3.11   I understand that an updated version which will work on both Windows 95 as well as 3.11 will be out in the market in a couple of months.

The good news is that it is an inexpensive package. Those who purchase the IPC Internet-ready computers can buy the CyberChat package for only $99/-. Others may purchase it for $119. I understand that installation is relatively straight-forward and requires no special technical knowhow.

The other party will need VocalTec's Internet Phone software, a full-duplex sound card and a local internet account to TALK with one another over the NET while saving a bundle on IDD charges.

Helping your Marketing Staff promote your Products & Services

It is not possible to be an expert at everything. It is more than likely that if your marketing staff are really good at personal selling, it is quite unlikely
that they would be equally great at copywriting. It would thus not be the most cost-effective use of both time and manpower resources, especially in terms of opportunity costs of lost sales, to have your marketing staff expend their effort on designing your brochures.

Why not simply sub-contract out the assignment to a professional better qualified to do the job. You don't necessarily have to go to the advertising agency and pay an arm and a leg. We perform a host of specialised marketing outsourcing services such as designing your brochures or ghost-writing your corporate newsletter etc.

It costs you nothing to just check out our unique services at   Professional Services for Outsourcing .

hotmail.com

You may also wish to consider opening a 2nd email account even if you already have your own email account if you often go abroad. The key advantage is that you can very conveniently retrieve your e-mail. If you are out of town and have access to the Web from someone else's computer, you can go to the Hotmail site and retrieve all your e-mail from your regular Singapore e-mail address.

Selling your Products & Services on the Net

The early bird catches the worm. This is very true when it comes to selling your products & services on the Internet. Singapore is very likely going to be a highly "interneted" community in a couple of years' time. You should explore the viability of establishing your presence in cyberspace NOW while the mad stampede hasn't yet started.

In a sense, cyberspace will get overcrowded as more and more companies get on-line. It is thus in your interest to stake out your cyber market while the competition is still wavering. This is particularly critical if you are not a particularly large corporation. You will lose the present competitive edge of establishing your cyber presence if you wait till everyone else, including your much larger competitors are in the game.

Don't be mistaken by expensive fancy websites. A simple and INEXPENSIVE website which is well designed with practical commercial considerations in mind rather than just eye-catching multimedia visuals can be every bit as effective. The key to being effective (which is not particularly well publicised by the established web designing companies) is not how your website looks but how well it is being CONTINUALLY promoted to target audiences.

Just remember that your website is merely one among millions of others floating around anoynomously in cyberspace! It will very much be a white elephant rather than an effective marketing tool unless you are able to attract growing traffic to visit it. That is much harder to do than most people realise. We offer just such a post-designing optional service to continually promote your website. What we can do depends very much on the type of product or service you are in. We are obviously much better at handling certain products and services than others.

Why not check out our article on Establishing an Effective Web Presence for a brief list of Do's and Don'ts when setting up your company's website. Better still, why not check out our Range of Services and just browse through some of our sample pages.
