Is It A Hint?
Tuesday (4th) was Melbourne Cup Day. Hubby, won $120 in work sweepstakes for picking
the winning horse! My Aunty's dog also had a bet and won $50 (go figure!). I should say that
Melbourne Cup is a horse racing festival at Flemington Racecourse and a public holiday (I imagine
most would shake their head in amazement at such trivial reasons for a holiday).
My sister and bro-in-law, came over with my nieces and nephew, they played on my
computer and piano and had alot of fun. Hubby came home (yes, some do work on public holidays) and played with the children in the
sand pit. My nephew pretended to be an Osterich and stuck his head into the sand...bottoms up!
He is very cute. I made a daisy chain for my eldest neice..she is so feminine and delicate, just like
my sister was when she was younger. The middle girl, she is so funny, she has a
character so colourful and wonderful...but boy is she cheeky!!! I don't get to see enough of them...I
really do miss them. Living so far away does take its toll on me at times, as I miss not seeing them as they grow up and become little people.
Tuesday night we went over to Jay's with pizza. We ate dinner, watched Les Mis on video, it
was a collection of all the main characters, live at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Then Jay taught
me my first song on the guitar "Well my backs are packed and I'm ready to go...I'm leaving on a jet
plane...don't know when I'll be back again...". That is my practice song till next time... So I learnt
my first chords on the 1st Nov, 4th Nov, my first song, and I can say that my fingers are still
tingling. As always we had a lovely time at Jay's. Their baby (14months) is adorable and so
musical...he plays the harmonica and little keyboard, so sweet!
Dinner on Wednesday night with my parents was fun as usual. My mother still hasn't got her
voice back (she squeaks)..so I teased her and said I had set up a mouse trap. After dinner we
went for a drive to Leo's Gelatti bar in Fitzroy St...and we picked up gelatti's (mine was Strawberry
and Mango flavour - not my ideal choice but the Mango flavour was great), then my dad drove us
around a new neighbourhood (Beacon Cove) which has been developed in Port Melbourne (specifically to show us the new 'see-through' gymnasium - where you can watch everyone do their workout), then onto
the Pier where the Spirit of Tasmania (ferry from Melb - Tas) comes in...Some fishermen where just packing up for the evening (looked like a quiet one for them) It was relaxing, despite my dad not being able to sit still..I always
have loved the ocean..
Thursday I went over to my sister's place..I arrived late :( but she was great about it. I usually
love to be punctual, often even early. The children were happy to see me..I played with them, sitting
outside in their makeshift cubbyhouse, until my eldest neice decided to make a gumnut cocktail
(gumnuts and grass and alf-alpha shoots in a cup with water). I believe the idea was so that she and her sister could dip
their feet into the glass..I was dressed for my committee meeting so I didn't want to get dirty..It was bad
enough I was sitting next to Puggsly (their dog - who licks and jumps all over you). I love dogs, but not when I am dressed to go out. Luckily, my
clothes survived!
My meeting was cancelled (Thursday evening after my sister's place), but no one contacted me
to let me know. Suprisingly, despite the 35km distance the meeting is from my place, I was not
annoyed at all. I just merrily went over to my brother's house (whom I have unfortunately not seen
in a while) and spoke to him and my sis-in-law. My sister-in-law who is breastfeeding (my nephew is 4 months old)
was telling me how sore she was..She was in the bath...and so I sat on the floor of the bathroom
talking to her (remember I am a nurse so this type of nude chatting is quite normal for me). Then my
sister came over to my brother's place...it was a mini family reunion. My brother made us a snack..what a cutie! It was
mango icecream! I left shortly after 9:30pm, as it would take me 1 hour to get home.. Although
hubby didn't get home till 11:30pm.
Afterthought.....
I have had so much fun with my neices and nephew and all the other children this week, I am
sure that something or someone is subliminaly hinting at a message to me here. Alas, as much as I love them, I am
not ready (of this I am sure) to become permanantly affixed to a child at this present time in my life.
I am actually looking foward to going back to studying next year. I am very maternal and love children. I will have them in the near future..but not this or next year..of that I am almost
certain.
By the way, the Melbourne weather has been glorious. Well It was a short one, but it's something....till later
Soosh :-)
