Gipsy Lake (1 of 2)

July 1997

If I had to choose a favorite spot in Montana, I wouldn't even have to think about it. Gipsy Lake is small and hard to get to -- which means most of the time we had the whole campground to ourselves! The nearest town is twenty miles away on a bad gravel road, so it kept visitors to a minimum.

I think the picture below sums up my summer pretty well. Sitting by the water, watching my fishing pole and  contemplating  the sunset was about as much stress as I had all summer long!

As it turned out, all that contemplation of fish paid off for us. We caught plenty of trout. Some were planted hatchery fish but many were native and all were delicious. We didn't have to buy meat the whole time we were at Gipsy! (Good thing, since the nearest store was almost an hour away.) Check out the next page for pictures of David with a typical Gipsy Lake dinner, as well as a picture of our most creative campsite of the summer.
