Through the lense of Torah
The four levels of Torah are known by the acronym PaRDeS
(a Hebrew term for "Paradise", literally "orchard"),
which stands for Pashat, Remez, Drush, and Sod.
* Pashat, the simple meaning, is the Mishnaic, or the simple written word of the Torah. For example, "See Jane run."
* Remez, allusion, is Gemaric. Here we might find allusion to the reason for Jane's running, such as from a bear.
* Drush, exposition, is Midrashic. Here one might draw from the parabolic tales and explanations of folklore.
* Sod, secret or mystery, is Kabbalistic. From the esoteric writings of Kabbalistic literature, such as the Zohar, one finds the deepest explanations of the spiritual realm.
Through these layers we understand Torah in its depth.
