I first began considering WLS in 1997. At that time I weighed 300 lbs. I was able to lose about 70 lbs using a variety of dieting methods including fasting for several days at a time. Obviously this was not healthy and the results proved to be temporary. The best thing I got out of my weight loss was my daughter :o) I found out that I was pregnant in January, 1999. My daughter was born in September and I quickly lost much of the extra weight. However, after about 6 months I began to notice that I was inching back up the scale and I began to look into WLS once more.
I saw my PCP in June, 2000 and to my releif he agreed to refer me to a surgeon. After a few false starts and some insurance mix-ups I finally went to WLS Orientation at Dr. Callery's office on October 10, 2000. Since then I have gone to my OBGYN for my yearly exam (female patients are required to have had a pap smear within the 12 months prior to
surgery) and they discovered that I have high blood pressure. Next I went back to my PCP and got a re-check on my BP and was perscribed medication as it was still high. My consultation was November 21, 2000, and I finally underwent surgery on February 14, 2001!! As of October, 2001 I have lost 105 pounds.
On October 17, 2001 I discovered that I was pregnant! Unfortunately I had a miscarriage the following week. Seeing as how it was an unplanned pregnancy, I am feeling ok emotionally! We will start trying for a planned pregnancy in the coming Spring!!
