Sound floodplain and stormwater management are essential to protecting water quality. The NRD has taken the lead to form a partnership of nine cities and two counties in the Papio watershed to address federal mandates for stormwater management under the Clean Water Act.

Good soil and water conservation helps to improve water quality by reducing sediment and chemical contamination. 
    The NRD spends $1M annually in cost-share assistance to rural landowners to implement such conservation measures as terraces and grassed waterways, small dams, and tree planting for erosion control.

   The NRD's Urban Drainageway Program provides technical and cost-share assistance for municipalities to implement erosion control projects.
