| Sound floodplain and stormwater management are essential to protecting water quality. The NRD has taken the lead to form a partnership of nine cities and two counties in the Papio watershed to address federal mandates for stormwater management under the Clean Water Act. |

| Good soil and water conservation helps to improve water quality by reducing sediment and chemical contamination. The NRD spends $1M annually in cost-share assistance to rural landowners to implement such conservation measures as terraces and grassed waterways, small dams, and tree planting for erosion control. |
