Jim's Role
I play the drums in Barrelhouse ...and set up the banner at every show!
Favorite Barrelhouse Song
I don't have a specific favorite, but I certainly enjoy some of our crunchier tunes like Frankenstein, Lazy, Long Distance Runaround, and Foreplay/Longtime.  But typically, the public want us to play party or dance music, and that's fine - as long as we get to play some of our crunchier material too!  Achieving a balance is always the biggest challenge.....
Favorite Barrelhouse Show
Favorite Barrelhouse Experience
I'd say it would have been the party we had after the 2002 Bear's Den gig out at Deep River, but we didn't have that party because we were all sleeping, so I guess I'm still looking for a favorite Barrelhouse experience...
Best Band of All Time
Gentle Giant - no other band has ever come close!  They were miles ahead of everyone else, and to date no other band has been as interesting to me as Gentle Giant!  Click on their name to see thier website!
Best Concert of All Time
I saw Gentle Giant twice in concert in Montreal.  The first time was in June 1976 at Montreal's outdoor Place des Nations - the band called Starcastle opened the show.  It was by far the best show I ever saw!  The second time I saw Gentle Giant was the following February at the Montreal Forum.  And I also enjoyed seeing 10CC in concert.
Other Bands/Musicians of Interest
While Barrelhouse plays classic/eclectic rock, my personal tastes in music wander away from rock.  I enjoy more progressive bands like UZEB, Return to Forever, Jean-Luc Ponty, Stephane Grappelli and Spyro Gyra.  And while I don't classify them as rock, I also enjoy listening to the Bare Naked Ladies.
Other Interests and Hobbies
I grew up watching Star Trek.  I watch all the star trek series and shows, and today I collect unopened Star Trek toys - the older the better!   (ok...so I'm weird!  But remember to call me if you find some of these toys in your attic!)
Music Gear used in Barrelhouse
I use my early 70's British-made 6+ piece gold-finished Premier drumkit along with various Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.
Worst Barrelhouse Experience
The purchase of that damn smoke machine!
Inspiration to Play Drums
Years ago, I saw a jazz special on TV which ended with a huge drumsolo - 4 drummers were all playing at once - Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton and Mel Torme - I was blown away - I knew then that I had to play the drums.  Now, if I could only figure out how to do it properly......!!!
There's been lots of great shows, but my favorite remains the 2001 O'Shack 25th Anniversary Bash!  What a party!
