The relationship between Carol and Captain America has gone through a lot of changes over the years. When Carol first joined the Avengers as Ms. Marvel, the two were quite friendly and towards the end of her membership there was a hint of romantic tension. The two share much in common and might have made an interesting couple had it not been for Carol's departure and subsequent alienation from the team.

Since Carol's return to the team as Warbird, the relationship between her and Cap has been incredibly strained. In her attempts to prove herself to the team, Warbird often defied orders and chose grandstanding over teamwork. She also kept her diminished power levels a secret from the team and lied to Cap to do so. When Carol's drinking problem and its impact on her performance became evident during the Avengers' most recent conflict with the Kree, Cap convened a court martial which led to Carol's bitter resignation. Carol blamed Captain America for her troubles with the team and was convinced that Cap was out to get her from the start. The two have yet to resolve the conflict between them.
