Waxing philosophical, waning intellectual
When is Braintree live next?
- Who knows? I don't.

Lyrics...

[ losing sleep to slaughter ]

It's the space between your words
The ones you'll never hear
It's the time before you sleep
For the thoughts you'll always fear
It's the silence that you're dreading
In the absence that you'll find
It's the melody you're humming
Of the haunting of your mind

So many are spending and rotting to the core
So much to take home, but we're lined up at the door
All that we fight for is lost in 'ever more'
This isn't our battle, but we're dying in the war

Of others
Forever more
Forfeiting youth
Without metaphor

So many are spending and rotting to the core
So much is inside, but no-one's knocking on the door
All that we've lost remains in 'never more'
This isn't our battle, but we're dying in the war

Of others
Forever more
Losing our youth
Without metaphor

So many are spending and rotting to the core
So much for darkness when we've opened the cellar door
All we create dies in 'never more'
This isn't our battle, but we're dying in the war

Of others
Forever more
Forfeiting youth
Without metaphor

It's the breath you take before screaming...

The story...

"'Without' was written at the same time as 'Binary Emotions', and along the same progressive lines, although 'Without' definitely took the cake in terms of originality. As much as I hate to use the overused "haunting" to describe the melodic theme, it works and I'm sticking with it. It's a pretty eerie piece because it comes and goes in a weird way. The main body of it's in 6/8 time, with the prechoruses in 11/8, and the choruses just drums and vocals back in 6/8 again. I really like the way the song came out, though. On Repiphanies, I had worked out a trio of clarinet solos for a friend of mine that would've added to the vibe. I hope I can record the song with her part in the future."
