This trip started with an idea. The 4 of us were watching movies at the home of Emily one Friday evening, and many of the movies were filmed in NY. We decided that it would be fun to visit NY, and the very next day a Westjet seat sale was advertised in Regina's local daily paper- the Leader Post. This timing was too convenient... So we booked. Our flight was to depart from Regina's airport at 5:50am on May 17th, with connections through Winnipeg, and Toronto before arriving at La Guardia. Our return flight was booked for Sunday the 22nd. we were excited to spend a few days in "The City that Never Sleeps".

DAY 1 Summary. Emily's dad picked us up bright and early to catch our flight. It was delightful that we were on the larger westjet planes, which not only have more comfy seats and leg room, but also skytv. I watched a fair bit of Animal Planet and TLC. Time passed and we arrived in Toronto, where we had lunch before clearing customs and proceeding on to NY. We cabbed to our hotel (Comfort Inn Midtown) and my first impressions of NY were positive ones... the sights, the sounds, driving by Central Park just as "What a Wonderful World" played on the radio. It did seem very NY-esque... Upon arriving we settled into our 2 hotel rooms. I was very delighted to discover that one of those unsafe looking fire escapes was outside our window. Despite the "do not open signs" on the window, we had to sneak a peak. We could also see a chair on the building across the street. Delightful... |

After settling into our hotel, we decided to go for a stroll. Our hotel was right off Times Square. Out we went, noticing the neon everywhere, and the crazily large crowds of people. There were also street vendors everywhere- selling everything from preztels to artwork. We also had our first encounter with the people who were trying to give away free improv/ comedy tickets- they were persistent throughout our stay. We had our first NY supper at TGIFridays- and I learned what food prices in NY are like. After more strolling, we settled in for the evening, ready for a big day the next day.
