Tom Clancy, “Debt Of Honour”, now I know how Jack Ryan came to be Vice President! It made a lot of things that I read in “Executive Orders” a lot clearer…. I don’t think there is much point in giving summaries of Tom Clancy’s books. You either like this type of thriller or you don’t. If you do, his books are among the best. And I like his characters a lot. I am not reading his books in chronological order, which is possible, but in retrospect it might make a little more sense to read them in order. Now – I am on a Clancy-Bonanza! – I am reading “The Bear And The Dragon”, another 1100 page whopper. Let’s see how Jack does as the president of the US, is he going to save the world again?

Christian Jacq
, “Ramses III – The battle of Kadesh”, I read it and disliked it even more than the first 2 installments of this Ramses saga. The first one I read in a German translation and I liked it. Then I read the second one in an English translation. I did not like the style of the whole thing, which might be due to the different language. Perhaps the German translation is a bit more lively. But after reading the third book, I think it is the characterizations and the plot that are the actual problem. I know that lots of people really like this series, but I just find it annoying. I don’t relate to the characters and there are just too many times that I find the plot unbelievable and too far fetched. So I now actually dumped part IV and V, sorry!

Instead I turned to something a lot more entertaining and gratifying –
Tom Clancy. I just read “The Sum Of All Fears” and “Patriot Games” and now I am plowing my way through “Debt of Honour”. I basically decided that I want to know all there is to know about Jack Ryan, so I got hold of all the books in the series that I have not read, yet. And I will not stop till I read them all…… “Patriot Games” was actually better than the movie, which is saying a lot, as that is one of my favourite movies! And, sorry Mr. Clancy, I realize that Harrison Ford is a bit old to play Jack Ryan, but Ben Affleck??? He is absolutely not my choice, all in all I think it would be better to get Alec Baldwin back!
