Ever wondered if I am the only non-Egyptian person that lives here, thinking this country is strange? Go and have a look at Walters' World, that's the site of my colleague Steve. It's worth a look, although he is actually funnier live! |

27.07.2001 Friday Been back for 2 weeeks now, feels like an eternity. Finally the computer is up and running again! Unfortunately I lost everything I ever downloaded from the internet in the process - quite a lot of software - my e-mail adress book, I am stuck with an inferior version of Windows98 and parts of my software only display in Arabic. **&^$#%&()&!!!!!!! 06.07.2001 Friday Arrived in Alex at 3am, ugh! Shalaby picked me up, went home and to sleep. Back to work on Sunday! 05.07.2001 Thursday Breakfast, ferry to Piraeus, stored my luggage and went shopping for earnest this time. Sales in Athens had started, even better! About 10 books, 7 DVD's, t-shirts, skirts...... Great! I love shopping..... Bus to the airport, bye-bye Greece! 04.07.2001 Wednesday Beach all day. Barbecue with the hotel owners and some guests, very nice evening. 03.07.2001 Tuesday My big butt! Take a German size chart - my butt is roughly 1 size bigger than the rest of me, my waist about a size smaller, all in all I am pretty average. Which explains why in my last 2 jobs designers used to fit garments on me - if it fits me, it's right for our German customers. Tried, tested and it works fine! Doesn't seem to do the trick in Greece though. 2 shop assistants already told me in a nice way that my butt is too big. Which is puzzling, considering how many very short Greek women I have seen so far with butts that were a lot bigger than mine. What does that mean, I am going to the wrong shops? Tall women are not allowed to have butts? If you're over 30, you have to dress like you're 60? Not even my mum does that and she is 60! Well, I am not going to start dieting, so I look like an anorexic Hoolywood actress or a teenager, that's for sure! I like my body the way it is, thank you very much! Anyway, was the total couch potato today, staid in the hotel most of the day, reading...... 02.07.2001 Monday Breakfast at the waterfront with Andrew, he left at 11am. Rented a scooter, plaid a bit on the gameboy, read for a while then at 2pm took off with the scooter to the beach. Had a swim, read some more, went for a dive - small fish, no corral, saw a moray and an octopus! - went for dinner and spent the rest of the evening reading. 01.07.2001 Sunday Daytrip to Delos and Mykonos. Delos - a barren island covered in ancient ruins. Problem - I did not know much about the site or its history and was too hot to fight my way through the terribly unpractical guide they were selling, so it remained a pile of rocks without much interest. Will have to read up on it and perhaps come back one day..... Mykonos - help, what is this? Knightsbridge transplanetd onto an island, argh! If I want Gucci, Armani and Philippe Patek, I certainly won't look for it on a Greek island! If you are looking for a nice realtively unspoilt Greek island to do some soul-searching, avoid Mykonos like the plague!!! If you want to shop and party with zillions of other tourists, this is the place. Nice boat ride though. I am sunburnt on the right side of my face only, very fetching! |
