Ramses II is considered as the most
famous king that has ever ruled Egypt. He ruled for almost 67 years and died at the age of
92. No other king had the number of children Ramses II had:he is said to have had almost
200 sons and daughters from 8 royal wives and numerous concubines. His constructions are
all over Egypt, the most famous of them would definitely be the hypostyle hall in karnak
temple and Abou Simbel temple.
One of the most important events during his reign was the war against the hitites and the
peace treaty he signed with them:this was the 1st peace treaty to have ever been signed in
the world. On all his temples we can see drawings representing the famous Qadesh battle
against the hitites. The latter one was discovered by the Swiss Johann Ludwig Burckhadt in
1813 and Giovanni Belzoni was the 1st to enter it in 1817.This temple is best known for a
great phenomenon which occurs twice a year : the sun falls on the faces of each statue in
the sanctuary on the 22nd of october and the 22nd of february which are the dates of birth
and coronation of the king.

Psousennes' tomb-in
Tanis-wasfound intact. It is the only tomb that was found unrobbed unlike Tout Ankh Amon's
which was pillaged twice.
The king's sarcophagus had been used 170 years earlier for the funeral of Merenptah .
His body was therefore found in a bad state.
