Dale Meinecke recently asked us during chapel to imagine what it would be like if all of DBU were really sold out for the Lord. He told us to imagine the change there would be. I suggest that the administration of DBU probably doesn't really want that (though they may not know they don't want it), unless, of course, Dale Meinecke meant we should be a bunch of sold-out dualists. But he probably doesn't mean that, since he's probably not a dualist, and we know that the administration of DBU supports Dr. Naugle. If all of DBU students were really sold out for the Lord (and weren't all dualists), we'd have a lot of controversy centered around our fine school. Let's do what Dale Meinecke suggested, shall we:
Ok, I'm imagining a bunch of DBU students sold out for the Lord. On the one hand, they've decided that they actually care about theology (and typical chapels in its current state are abhorrent and insulting to each and every one of them); some of them have even taken it upon themselves to defend the inerrant Scriptures against a slipper-ily prevalent Karl Barth (neo-)orthodoxy that is influential in the BGCT. These same DBU students are busy looking for common ground between 'fundamentalism' and more moderate Baptist leanings. They're even looking for common ground between conservative Baptists and conservative Presbyterians (Heaven forbid!). The Diamond Belles are nonexistent because too much of our time and money goes to world missions. See You at the Pole is in the morning again, as God intended, and even though people still bring guitars sometimes most people are repulsed by the idea of it being a See-You-at-the-Glowing-Heart-Concert because they're so darn busy praying for wisdom for the government and begging God to forgive us for our genocidal war against the inconvenient unborn...
Students have suddenly realized that worship is a lifestyle and are (still more) uncomfortable with the current state of typical chapels that emphasizes worship through song and almost never mentions the fact that worship is a lifestyle. By the scores DBU students show up at pro-life events, and more than just one DBU philosophy student is busy contemplating arguments for natural marriage (how intolerant of them). They have worked out the necessary distinctions in the way a Christian school supports pro-life political issues, and whether or not or in what sense such things are connected to a Christian education, and just why they are or are not thus connected ...
In the outside world (which we visit often, now that the DBU bubble is burst, thousands of Texans (and other people all over the world) of all religious creeds, confessions, and denials are grateful to us for our work with homeless shelters and donations of Operation Christmas Child. Other thousands are enraged at us because so many of our students take a public stand for unborn human life (Christians are supposed to be about ministry, after all. We're not here to make political statements)...
Naugle classes are required for everyone, and Foundations for Excellence is gone...
Sorry, people; I'm just calling it like I see it in an attempt to call it like it is. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR DISAGREEMENTS AND WE'LL POST IT (just be reasonable): DBUSNIPE@YAHOO.COM!!!! Maybe I'm overdoing the critique. Apologies if so. But . . . you know, someone has to be critical around here. Most of this stuff is true, though possibly overstated. DBU admin probably doesn't really have anyone who wants to be dualistic, but they probably haven't really thought about the disadvantages of promoting Dr. Naugle's theology/philosophy. As for the theology of Scriptural inerrancy vs. the theology of Karl Barth, they know all about that. As said below, that in itself does not personally offend the DBU snipe members.
Please don't get the wrong idea, people. Like we say in the Disclaimer, the opinion of myself is absolutely not necessarily that of any other DBU Snipe members or correspondents. Furthermore, though we focus on the negative, it is absolutely the opinion of all DBU Snipe members and correspondents that there are really awesome things about DBU, especially (in my opinion) the professors. You can get a tremendous education here.
It just seems like these are some of the results of students being non-dualists and sold-out for God. Do you disagree? Email dbusnipe@yahoo.com and we'll post the disagreement. --Head Snipe
