| What do I like about hockey? Well besides learning to skate before I walked, the rink is my favorite place to be regardless of who's on it. I used to watch a lot of it when I was younger. Our home team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Eric Lindros was big news when the season started last year. Being from London Ontario, he too grew up on the rink. When he was snatched up by the New York Rangers I was pretty disappointed, I really wanted to see him play as a Leaf. When the news was going on about him, I teased people wondering if we could get Troy Aikman here to QB for the Argos! The concussion thing makes me think like that. In today's game, our team is into the playoffs, and I still think Darcy Tucker is in the net more than the puck. Poor Cujo's hand...ouch, mine's been dislocated, I can only imagine. Another funny hockey quirk is the way we say Mats Sundin's name. Is the S pronounced in Mats? Everyone always says his full name here, and it's been my query! In the old days, when Rick Vaive was captain, I met a few players. John Anderson (Who had girls snipping his hair while he signed autographs...poor guy) Paul Higgins...the largest knuckles I've ever seen on anyone. Now he was a cool guy, the Domi of yesteryear! Mike Palmateer was goalie...but Borje Salming was who I caught the cold from. He borrowed my pen to sign a few aughtographs, and I picked it up from him then. Today's players, I think are really tough. Domi is proof of that, I've yet to see him back off. My all time favorite player still has to be Eric though, just because I can see his love of the sport. I fell over laughing while watching the olympics when Eric put a headlock on a player. He's adding a bit of wrestling to the game! So that's why he's featured here for now, until I get more pictures scanned. Enjoy DESIRE |

| Wed, May 29th, 2002 well my fingernails will now get a rest...although I did predict the Leafs to lose, I am sad. Sad to see them finished for the season. 'Let's do it' that's what I read Darcy Tucker's lips after Sundin's goal last night. If I was correct or not, they played like it until the last minutes of the game. Well people I've talked to these last few days are surprised I was right in predicting either Carolina or Colorado in the cup game. I think it will be those two teams...and the season of hockey isn't over yet fans. There's still some hungry players waiting to bring the cup home. Good luck to all, and to the Leafs, nurse those injuries and see you all next season. Good show guys. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Tue, May 21st, 2002. The boys are back in town...yes they are...they aren't looking too bad either. Gotta love DOMInator geting in the face of players much bigger than him, while standing up for his teammates. Back in T.O. series tied, Sundin back with Tucker, and still laughing at Gary Roberts window washing in the penalty box. What can I say? Not a thing today except Toronto has really gone Leaf mad! You can't go two steps around here without seeing a flag or someone dressed in blue and white. Wondering how much Doug was fined for breaking that glass, and what he was thinking after he broke it. (It appeared as though he hadn't noticed what he'd done!) Good luck tonight Leafs. |

| Darcy Tucker...in the net more than the puck! Was into white towel waving, currently into shoulder slinging. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wed, May 15th, 2002...What can I say about the previous games, and last nights game? Well, I knew the Leafs could do it if they played like they can...and they did. Either they read about what I wrote regarding playing hockey, someone told them, or they knew themselves. Either way, they got past the Sens by playing. I do have one issue to deal with here...to Mr. Daniel Alfredsson, and to Mr. Ricard Persson of the Ottawa Senators. Mr. Alfredsson, if you're reading this I would like to point out that my boy Tie Domi could have been killed, or crippled with such a head injury. If so, what would you say about that? That he deliberately wants to hurt himself and forget playing for the Leafs for the Cup? How about if he wore a visor? It would have cracked, and pieces of it could've ended up in his eye blinding him. What about that? To Mr. Persson I'd like to say you're very lucky that it didn't happen, and to think before hitting someone from behind. I didn't like what I saw, and although Darcy was hurt badly from the hit he took, Domi is my mini Higgins. To Tie, I have one thing to say if you're reading this...my boy in blue, yeah sure plastic surgery can remove that scar, but it won't be removed in the history of hockey. You sacrificed yourself out there to get this far in the NHL...that scar is a permanent reminder of it. There's nothing wrong with the size, shape, or features of your head, and to me the way you are now is going to be remembered forever. I think it will always be remembered in the history of the Leafs, just like the Higgins, Salming, and others from the years before. The Leafs take a beating to play, and win for us. You can't remove that from our hearts. I hope you are well, and heal and I admire your reply in the media to Alfredsson. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Thurs, May 9th, 2002...The last 25.4 seconds of the game turned out to be the most dramatic. Senators pulled Lalime during the last minute, Darcy missed the empty net, and then the Senators came close with Hossa trying to stuff the puck into the net. Cujo landed on it and covered the view from all video angles, so the record stands as no goal. Although the 2-1 victory for the Leafs was clean...the Corel got trashed. Fans dumped garbage onto the rink, and were warned it would cost the Senators a penalty if it continued. With 25.4 seconds left in the game would it matter? I dunno, but I wonder how many Leaf fans at the Centre tossed stuff so they could get the Senators a penalty! I was mostly glad that the Leafs concentrated on playing last night, and forgot about the whole Watson thing. Pilar took a nasty shot on his left thumb, and left the game. I haven't heard yet if he'll play Friday here in Toronto, but I do know that if the Leafs continue to play like they did last night, if not better, they'll win. I'm predicting Mats won't be back in any game with the Senators. If the Leafs get past them, Sundin may be ready to come back in the next series. I'm hoping that they will keep concentrating on playing, and show all the fans what a hockey game really is. The sport has been around for so many years, and it's an exciting one. We've gone through many great players over the years, and it's nice to know that the Leafs are doing what they can with so many injured. It shows that each individual player has the same desire to win, and put out 110% for the love of the sport. |

| Cujo...critics doubted him, but he proved them wrong. Wonderful goal tending in the final game vs the Sens, Cujo! Good luck in Detroit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| May 7th, 2002...Watson doesn't really give a damn! Okay so maybe Sherlock thought that about Watson, but what would he deduce about Brad Watson? Last nights game (Leafs lost 3-2) a lot of spouting off to the ref's occured. As usual, Tie Domi was still quite livid addressing the media regarding the key goal in the game. Brad Watson took the heat regarding Alfredssons's goal. Domi also questioned why Roberts didn't get a penalty shot after being thrown by Redden. Cujo the most upset with the officals even gave Watson an earful when he went to the bench in the last minute. Sundin was quoted as saying 'It's hard to sit there and watch'. If Mats was able to play would he have put the fire under the team that occured in the last period, from the beginning of the game? Get them all concentrating on the job at hand, and worry about the bickering with officals later? If you asked me, and I was playing, I think the last thing I'd think about is Referee Brad Watson and Don Koharski. I'd be thinking about how to get the puck in the net. How to outsmart the Senators and get the team concentrating on playing instead of thinking about what may or may not be a bad ref's call. Maybe it's the wrestling thought...where ref's never are right, and miss everything. So the decision is important to the game, the key goal in the game. Every game, the next goal is a key one, and I'd play it that way. You never know if tomorrow you'll be out there playing, or scoring...concentrate on the here and now. The people who should worry about the ref's are the team coaches, and managers. There are plenty of them to argue with the ref's...and players who take a penalty, hurt, and so on. They're allowed to get fired up because it's their job to fire up the team...in a positive way. Remember guys...you're out there playing for a National team, a dream a lot of other hungry players are after. One each player has wanted just as equally...so play like it...and for the love of the sport. (Gee reminds me of someone who wanted to be a Leaf) If the Leafs don't forget the calls on last night game, they'll be playing with extra baggage they don't need, and may lose. I can only wish them luck...and maybe hope someone's told them what I just wrote! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It's okay, I know how to say Mats Sundin. Look for Mats to be in the 2nd or 3rd game of the Carolina series. Will his return play a part on the Leafs games? Wait and see. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MORE HOCKEY NEWS! Sat, May 4th 2002...or Sun, May 5th 2002 depending on which way you look at it! The leafs faced the Senators in the ACC for an almost record length of time. It was into Sunday morning before Roberts' broke the tie. I could see why players looked like they were imitating domino's falling all over the rink. I'd be too if I spent that much time playing. It took the 2nd overtime for Darcy Tucker to get himself into the penalty box for a high sticking call. The 2nd O.T. seemed to be his show hitting the goal post with a shot. Puts me in mind of the soccer shot my x-fiance made when he was playing for the Toronto Blizzards. He did this upside down bike pedal kick that hit the center of the top goal post. Speaking of the actual goal net...the Leafs net needs to be cemented down since it kept coming off...one of the times Cujo himself did, shortly after the puck entered the moved net. The game was exciting...considering it was really long, some of the hits were pretty cool. Especially the one Tucker made that didn't knock the wind out of anyone except maybe him! He's our leader until Mats comes back, second to the injured Sundin. (Update...Roberts is now leading in goals.) Although a lot of people have things to say about individual players I only tease here. (Ask everyone at the rink) I have tons of respect for these guys out there taking hits as well as dishing them. Although Darcy hates the moniker given to him of Sideshow Bob, I never thought of him like that. He's come around to what I knew he'd be this year, and our home town is proud of that, and Darcy. I think people should have said that Darcy lures the spotlight upon himself and left it that. Good luck tonight guys! |

| Hockey update...minus Mats, the Leafs got past the Islanders, but took a brutal loss last night vs Ottawa. Darcy spent some time in the box...perhaps I should have said he's in the box more than the puck is in the net! GOOD LUCK GUYS! |

| I guess I should dedicate this page to Jim and Doug who used to antagonize me at the rink! They entertained though...Jim talking about his fights...breaking the door to the change room in one. Zig zagging around in front of me on the ice. (Only time I almost fell was laughing at their skating antics!) Testing my skill jumping pucks when they skidded over from the hockey rink...then getting teased sending it back.
