It seemed like no time that Fona was there and signed up before the clutch began showing its first signs of hatching. She rushed frantically onto the sands like the rest of her fellow candidates, clutching the egg she had taken from the underwater nest. It still hadn't hatched but it too was showing signs of being near birth. There were only four eggs in the blue-lavender's clutch and only a handful of candidates circling around it as they twitched.
Fona trembled with excitement, watching the eggs twitch, rock and shake. She could feel the tiny lives within them as the hatchings struggled for freedom. At last, one broke shell and poked her head from the top, revealing herself to be a pale minty green enhanced with soft lavender wings. The water mage sighed at the little female as she struggled free and found her bond. Her maternal instinct lurched out to the three remaining eggs and her own mystery one, which began to twitch more fervently. At last, from the small egg punched a blue-gray muzzle followed by the rest of the eggs inhabitant in rapid succession. It revealed itself to be much like it's parent, with a mermaid-like tailfin and sharp ridge running from forehead to shoulders.
"Hello, little one." Fona purred to the newly hatched creature. It reguarded her curiously before began licking its egg fluid-soaked fur to clean it. As the little water creature had been making it's way into the world, so had a dainty little turquoise-blue dragonet on the sands. Her egg teetered and tottered before she was able to break through and roll out of it. Slowly she stood and shook the sand from her sea blue wings to gaze wide-eyed at the remaining candidates.
The little hatchling didn't seem to be able to make up her mind. As Fona was absorbed in the little furry sea beast, the dragonet projected herself in the three remaining minds. Who am I supposed to choose? she asked them quietly, drawing a gaze from Fona. Her heart immediately opened to the little turquoise dragonet and her name fell into it. "Come with me, Kokaruichikoth. I'll take care of you." she nearly cooed, reaching out a hand to scoop up the smaller beast. Really? Okay then, Fona. I'm yours. Koka' said happily, allowing herself to be led by the water mage to the food table.
There, Fona fed both Kokaruichikoth and the as-yet unnamed water beast meat from the bowls. "What am I to call you, little one? You didn't come with a name..." Fona pondered, watching the little creature bury himself face-first into the bowl. "How about Yuugyo? Does that appeal to you?" No response came from the animal, causing Fona to laugh softly. "Perhaps I shall wait until your belly is full, maybe your mind will be sharper then."
