Reserve Patrol Officer is a part-time position. As suggested by the title, regular patrol activities are included in the job description. Hours are irregular and full-time certification is preferred but not required. This is an excellent entry-level position for someone who thinks that they are interested in a law enforcement career and wants to find out what the job is really like. |
Reserve Support Officer is also a part-time position. However, unlike the Reserve Patrol Officer, patrol is not part of the job description. A Reserve Support Officer may assist with special police duties under the direction of a full-time officer and may be used to provide prisoner transport services. |
Patrol Officer is a full-time police position. Successful completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's Basic Police School program is required within one year of employment. Patrol Officers patrol the Town of Dixfield, enforce all laws of the State of Maine and the ordinances of the Town of Dixfield. Criminal Investigations are also the normal responsibility of Patrol Officers at this time. |
Patrol Sergeant is a full-time police position and is generally filled from the ranks of full-time police patrol officers. The Sergeant's position is a supervisory position and the Sergeant answers directly to the Chief of Police. Also, the Sergeant takes command of the department in the absence of the Chief. |
