DENTAL FLOSS : Proper technique
of Flossing
For proper cleaning of tooth dental floss
should be effectively used . The best dental floss is one that has
a number of unwaxed fine nylon filament with less number of twists.
Flossing should be immidiatly followed by vigerous rinsing of mouth
with water to wash away the loosened debris .
METHOD :
After you have cut a 18 inch to 24 inch (about 2 feet)lenth of floss
, wrap one free end around your ring finger of your right hand (left
hand for left handed persons), leave 6 inch of thread and wrap the
rest of the floss around the ring finger of the opposite hand .now
use the tip of your index finger and thumb to hold a 2 to 3 cm of
piece tightly .use the tip of your index finger to place the floss
in bitween two teeth on the outer surface of your teeth , then use
sliding motion to pass the floss through the contact area (it is
the part of the tooth where two tooth touches each other )into the
space bitween two teeth.then wrap the floss around the anterior
tooth by using a gentle anterior force and move the floss up and
down to clean the tooth surface.after this lift the floss gently
and use slight posterior force to wrap around the posterior tooth
surface then repeat the up and down motion . to remove the floss
you can bring both end out and pull out or release one free end
and pull the other end out.this process should be repeated for each
gap with a new clean section of floss.for flossing of posterior
tooth you may have to use the tip of your middle finger, since it
is longer.
There might be some bleeding with flossing in the initial few days,
this is because the gums are tender over there, but it should stop
within a few days as the gums will become healthier after regular
cleaning .
