entering a city for camarilla kindred

This is a basic starting page on what the average Kindred neonate who is entering a new city from each of these clans might consider doing when deciding upon a move. This page is mostly geared towards players entering an on-line roleplaying environment but hopefully is useful as a more general guide as well.

Ventrue : With their layers and layers of bureaucracy, it would only be natural for a Ventrue entering the city to contact the Primogen beforehand via the Head of the Board (that's Clan elder or Primogen) of their home city. Do this via e-mail to the player of the Primogen or an IC post in the forums' before you actually enter IC so that you will know where Elysium is. That way, you can start RP'ing within Elysiums and hopefully meet other players there..

Toreador : The most social and refined of the clans, etiquette is a must. It would only be the sociable and polite thing to do to announce your arrival beforehand to the Elder and Prince.

Tremere : The Tremere are the simplest since with their rigid Pyramid structure your looking at being told to go to a new chantry. Which means that the Regent is likely to know of your arrival beforehand. Again, just drop them an e-mail to let them know if you are entering the city. Or use the Rite of Introduction.

Nosferatu : No rigid structure like the Tremere nor are they particularly social among the other Kindred, still a Nos would stand the best chance of knowing beforehand who and where and how to find others of his clans as it is (The Warren). Either use e-mail or the forums to announce your arrival within the Warren - or perhaps even drop a note to the Prince if you feel up to it.

Brujah : *does a 3 way split before talking* Firstly, Idealists might do the same as any Toreador/Ventrue and contact their leaders beforehand. Secondly, the Iconoclasts... well, no real idea. *grins* They do what they want.. and Individualists make their own choices on where they want to do don't they? Play it as your character would - but consider either having them try to bump into people during Rants/Raves or learning of the correct individuals to speak to before entering the city. I.e. use e-mail.

Gangrel : If your playing a Gangrel, chances are your not that bothered about showing your face to the Prince. Nor are the authorities supposed to be that bothered about you. So don't worry about the presentation bit - you really shouldn't be worried either.

Caitiff : Good luck on finding someone out there who will see you/ talk to you. No social structure, no clan to hold onto, no chance of finding someone beforehand. That's what you have from playing a Caitiff.

So how do we actually IC know how to contact these people in charge? Sure, my Toreador would love to contact the Elder of the Toreadors in the new city. But what IC reason do I have to know his contact details? Well, I'll try to go down them via clans quickly and then go to the other forms.

Tremere : You would know most likely unless you've gone rouge on the Tremere. One of the advantages of being of that clan - the highly rigid, pyramid structure.

Nosferatu : Just ask the other Nos in your first warren and then go hunting in the sewers for the Nos in the new city. You're likely to know where the Warren is if you did a bit of checking, which means you just need to do an IC forums post to get the Nos to respond. e.g. New Nos in Sewers heading into Warren.

The other clans : They don't have the clan structure or built in advantages like the other 2 so your likely going to need to use other traits for this.

Backgrounds

Mentor : A very useful background for this case. Use the mentor (who is likely to be older than the character) to get the contacts - i.e. he's the IC excuse.

Contacts/Allies : Again, another pair of backgrounds that can be used as an IC excuse. A Toreador harpy ally in one city or mayhaps an Elder of your clan as a contact both give good reasons for how you learnt of your Clan Primogen in the city or the Princes' secretaries number.

Status : Whilst not as useful for learning the name of Prince, it does mean that your name or face is known. That is after all what status is. So sticking it on your tag when you log on might increase the speed that people would recognise you.

Abilties

The best and most useful ability here would be Camarilla Lore. Not much use at level 1 but more useful when you head further up the levels, especially if your home city was one that is close by.
