multi-team Dual match hosted by
Bridgewater-Raynham and including Longmeadow, Agawam, and

Dragons ranked #8 in State by MassWrestling.com
Saturday, December 22, 2001
It was pointed out by several of our readers that Duxbury
is ranked #8 in the state in the team
rankings by MassWrestling. Duxbury is just behind Bridgewater-Raynham
and just ahead of Weymouth. Duxbury and B-R are scheduled
to meet on January 26th. Given that Plymouth South won a close
match over B-R recently and that Duxbury also won a close
match aganst Plymouth South, we expect a tough match on the
26th with B-R.

Canton, got off to a rocky start for the Dragons, but the
Dragons got things into gear and prevailed over Canton 50-25.

Duxbury wins against Middleboro
Wednesday, December 19, 2001
The Dragons learned this wednesday that they can not overlook
any team and the Sachems of Middleboro showed that they came
prepared to take Duxbury down. Duxbury won this match 42-30,
but Middleboro won seven of the twelve matches wrestled. All
of Duxbury's wins were by fall and two matches, 112 and 119
pounds were won by forfeit. Captains Kyle McCarthy(130) and
Matt Lanuto(171) turned in pins along with Anthony Binsfield(275),
Kris Burgos(215) and Elmo Roberts(189). The Dragons are now
5-0 on the season and on notice that they are now a team to
beat.

Duxbury wins Three at Quad
Saturday, December 15, 2001
Duxbury's Dragons wrestling team produced some evidence that
they may be emerging as a force to be reckoned with this season.
The Dragons hosted a Quad with East Providence, Franklin and
Plymouth South at Duxbury High School today. Duxbury came
away with wins against all three teams, although the match
with Plymouth South was the closest for the Dragons. Duxbury
defeated E. Providence 39-30, Franklin 58-20 and Plymouth
South 39-37.

for the match can be found here.
Duxbury defeats Randolph 53-5
Wednesday, December 12, 2001
Duxbury soundly defeated a less experienced Randolph wrestling
team this evening 53-5. The match started with a forfeit at
Heavyweight to Duxbury freshman Greg Herrman. Sophomore Adam
Johnson made a strong effort at 103 pounds, but was caught
in the second round for a fall. From that point on the match
was all Duxbury. Jeff Byron (112), Kevin Donoghue (119), Ian
McConnaughey (125), and Kyle McCarthy (130) all scored pins.
Junior Topher Bell (135) was mistakenly matched against Spencer
Lee of Randolph at 140 pounds, but Topher managed to win a
major decision (17-4). Scott Klebanoff (140) wrestled up at
145 pounds and won by a fall. At 152 and 160 pounds Duxbury
did not take forfeit points, although Randolph did not have
wrestlers at these weights. Junior captain Matt Lanuto, wrestling
at 171 pounds, won by fall as did Elmo Roberts (189). A tough
evening for Randolph was made a bit tougher when a member
of the Randolph team gave in to frustration and lost a team
point for an instance of unsportsmanlike behavior.
Following the varsity match, Duxbury's Junior Varsity wrestlers
showed some of the team's depth; winning four out of the six
matches with Randolph Varsity wrestlers by fall. Freshman
Eric Sheridan (103) and Sophomores Greg Woods (125), Scott
McConnaughey (130) and Nick Petrocelli pinned their opponents.
Team scores and individual scores for the match can be found
here.
Duxbury Hosts Scrimmage with Carver,
Hanover, Tabor
Saturday, December 1, 2001
Duxbury coaching staff and wrestlers hosted a multi-team scrimmage
at Duxbury High School this morning. Warmup exercises were
led by Duxbury's four captains: Seniors Josh Caldwell, Kyle
McCarthy and Ian McConnaughey and Junior Matt Lanuto. Wrestlers
from the four teams broke into groups by weight and drilled
takedowns, moves from referees' position and did some live
wrestling. This was a good chance for the wrestlers from the
four teams to practice drills and get in some live wrestling
with members of other area teams without the stress or competition
of a dual match or tournament.
Duxbury Head coach Bob Watts and assistants Chris Caldwell
and Sal Lanuto are preparing the Dragons for another winning
season.
Duxbury Boosters donate Wrestling
Mat
November, 2001
The Duxbury Boosters donated a new wrestling mat to the high
school wrestling program this season. The mat was delivered
in the last few weeks and looks very impressive. The three
sections of the mat are a dark, Dragon green with the wrestling
boundaries and markings in white. Our many thanks to the boosters
for supporting the Duxbury wrestling team!
