Since carrying out research for my A2 Communications
project, Eating problems have been an 'interest' to me. In my opinion from the work I carried out, The media does have an effect on sufferers but not to the extent which many programmes, magazines, etc seem to think (in a recent story on BBC news, they blamed the media and men's health magazines for the rise in male sufferers of eating problems). In my opinion, it is the people around the sufferers and the way the sufferer views themselves which determines whether or not they will suffer. I myself never looked for 'thinspiration' in the media. My problem was brought on by other problems in my life which I felt I couldn't control. What I am asking for, is some feedback on your experience of eating disorders, or just generally what you think about them - how you feel it is caused, if the media does have any real impact on sufferers and if you feel that eating problems are really 'problems.' Any feedback on this would be very welcome. Hopefully when I have a substantial amount of feedback I will put it on this website - if you would rather I didn't put your name or your details on the piece, please state that when submitting your feedback.
