Match Reports (a) Michelmersh & Timsbury..... L 6-2 The start of the season and hopes were high. As soon as we caught sight of the long haired tw*t playing for them, we knew we could win. And we got off to the perfect start, with Kyle Hall scoring about a minute into the new season. But then we sat back, and they scored 2 before half time. We were still in with a chance though. Until we let in another 4. We knew wed run out of steam when there 20 stone right-back out paced our players. In truth, we run out of steam after the first 5 minutes. A poor start really. (a) Pirelli Pirates......Hants Cup W 3-0 After coming to terms with losing against the sh!te that is Michelmersh, we tried harder in training. We realised the results wouldn't just appear. We would have to work for them. We enlisted the services of Pete Gascoigne and his son Tim, to help us sort out our defence, mifield and the attack (our problem areas). We started well and plugged away at them. Eventually Kyle scored. Our defence improved, with Aaron Grant playing a solid role at the back. Ben McMonague scored the second from a corner, amd Kyle Hall finished off the game with a calm 3rd, as we grabbed our 1st win and progressed to the next round. (a) Hiltingbury.....W 6-4 A great match which could of gone either way, but eventually our improved fitness was the differance, aswelll as a man-of-the-match performance from Ben McMonague. We went 1 nil up through Kyle again. But we lost our concentration and let in 3 stupid goals. After the break, we decided we wernt gonna just give up like we have done so often in the past. Ben pulled one back, and skipper Warren Frampton smacked in the eqauliser, with a contender for goal of the season. Ben scored another to stretch our lead, but Hiltingbury pulled 1 back to make it 5-4. Ben McMonague capped off a great display with his 4th to seal a good win for us. (h) Solent Stars. . . . .w 2-0 Our first home game of the season, where the scoreline flatters Solent. They were s**t, and we should of stuffed them. They had a bloomin woman for a manager (no disrespect to women, its fine for them to watch football). Macca scored our first, and steve sealed it later on. (h) Hamble Club. . . . .W 1-0 Again, we spurned chances against another team which we could of beaten with ease. It was a hot tempered affair, with many battles going on, mostly with a goofy kid who thought he was 'ard. He got sent off and received a £37 fine. Couldn't have happened to a goofier chap. Steve scored the decisive goal. (a) Lordswood. . Hants Cup. . .L 4-3 A close game in the pooring rain, which we should of got something from. We got off to a shit start, 3-0 down in about 10 minutes. But Steve scored a trademark freekick before half-time and we were back in the game. We game out firing on all cylinders as they say, and the influential Calvin Ley popped up to slot in a 2nd for us. Then something magical happened. We were on the attack, but the ball was cleared. It landed at the feet of centre-back Matt Irwin. He took a touch and at 38 yards out twated the ball at the goal. It went through the keepers arms, Taibi style, and trickled in. And possibly goal of the season was scored. Then the cheesey Lordswood ba57ards got a throw their way when it should of been ours, and scored a scrappy goal. With that we were out of the cup. It was a loser cup anyway, which we didnt want to win. (h) Albion Boys. . . . .L 3-0 Despite assistant referee Adam Elliott doing an excellent job, Fawley lost to a bunch of cacheros who tuck there trousers into there socks. If it wasn't for the referee being scared of their big players, we would of won the game. That and miss of the bloody season by Bean. As the ball bounced over the keeper and about to go in the net, up steps beanhead to head it onto the bar and over. They were lucky, even though they were probably the best team weve played this year. However they had a centre forward who scored possibly the flukiest goals ever. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! (h) S & D. .Challenge Cup . .W 4-3 A tough match against a mid-table 2nd division team. Fawley fielded an experimental line up, with Elliott starting at left back, Liddon right back, Wadmore started his first game for the club in right midfield and the two Ben's started upfront. But it was the wind that badly affected each team's perfomances. Luckily Fawley won the toss and decided to go with the wind in the first half. At half time it was 3-1 to Fawley, thanks to goals from Macca, Ben Hawkins and a 45 yard free kick form Daniel Greatorex. Sam scored a goal which was suspiciously disallowed for offside by a FEMALE linesman. After the break it was much tougher for Fawley, we knew that we would be up against it but Ben Hawkins extended our lead before S & D grabbed two goals back which set up a nervous finale. Again, we got a goal disallowed by the FEMALE linesman which blatantly crossed the line, but there you go, through to the next round of the cup! (a) Solent Stars. . . . .W 10-1 The words 'Piece of Pish' spring to mind. The 2 Bens were on form again, as they grabbed 7 between them. Also Chris Parks aka Beanhead broke his goaldrought with 2 goals, the 2nd in which he took it around the keeper to finish. Ben McMonagle hit 5 to boost his goal tally, while little Ben Hawkins is joint 2nd scorer with Kyle Hall after 4 goals in 2 games. Woody scored a cracker on the volley for his first goal of the season. Fawley experimented in the 2nd half, with 3-5-2, which received mixed reactions in the dressing room. The result seems to suggest it worked, but then again This team wouldnt of won if they had 50 players (well, possibly) but they were rather sh!t to say the least. Its about time we scored loadsa goals, to boost our poor goal difference. Realistically, we should have got another 7. (a) Weston Sports. .Challenge cup.......W 3-0 After 4 weeks without a game, it was nice to be playing again, as we picked up where we left off. Kyle got us going with an early goal, before Bean made it 2 with a sweet finish. Steve Pester finished the game off with a neat finish, as we marched on into the next round. (a) Riverside Blues . . ...........W 5-0 Another routine win as Danny Parker goes 2 games without having to make a save. Infact, Riverside blues didnt even manage a shot that went anywhere near to the goal as Fawley defended well again. Alex coutts sneaked in at the back post for the first goal, and Kyle scored a great left foot goal to make it 2-0. A smart piece of defending from Adam Elliott denied Riverside blues the chance to get back in the game. After the break, Fawley had an obvious penalty turned down by the blind linesman, but carried on to make it 4-0 with a Steve Pester free-kick, and a stlish own goal. Ben 'Macca' McMonagle (or human tank as he likes to be called) rounded off the win, as Fawley go into a big game with East Cowes next week. (a) Highwood Blues. . . .W 2-1 Good to finally get playing again, but not one of our better performances. In our inside out shirts (Highwood 'Blues' play in red and black) we conceded a scrappy goal after a mix up. But midfield ace Woody scored a powerful header to even the scores. Chance after chance went begging before Macca scored to give us a deserved lead. Our chances totalled roughly 148 and we had a goal ruled out for some reason that nobody knows. Although the plan was to save all our goals for Albion. (a) Albion Boys. . . . . W 4-3 Fawley get revenge for the last match between us, and we came out flying. Infact, Kyle Hall scored after just 28 seconds, beating his 49 second goal against m+t. The game was end to end, before Albion equalised. But before the break, Bean made a dash into the box and was brought down by the keeper. Up stepped Blakey to slot away the penalty. Then Fawley were the better team, beating Albion to thr 50 50s. After the break, we created the better chances. Eventually, we raced into a 4-1 lead, Steve scoring the 3rd, and Macca getting his 16th of the season. Fawley took their foot off the pedal, and Albion grabbed to late goals, but rareley posed a threat upfront, although Matt Irwin saved us with a great tackle near the end. (a) Hamble Club . . . .W 4-1 We effectively ended Hambles title hopes after an impressive second half display, inspired by midfield maestro Matt Wood. After going behind, steve scored a penalty after a handball. It was even going into the second half, but substitute and top scorer macca scored to give us the lead soon after the break. He then added to this on the counter attack, with a sublime strike. Steve made it 4, before tempers flared and the rock nearly lost it but luckily didnt lash out. It was a valuble 3 points which kept us in the race for the 3rd division title (a) Vosper . . Challenge Cup. . . L 5-0 Well........ What did you expect? Vospers, joint first in Division One, against Fawley, third in Division Three. This match was the equivalent of Manchester United against Plymouth Argyle. We didn't do that badly, for the first 5 minutes, in fact we nearly scored. They scored a few goals, two nill at half time... blah blah blah.... Bean got booked for a late tackle. Then super wing back Adam Elliott smacked in a screamer, a true strikers goal, which he took with such panache and style He spun it in with the outside of his left foot, as the keeper watched in mercy. Unfortunately for him, his team and the travelling supporters, it was at the wrong end. At least now Fawley can concentrate on their title challenge. It was a Mickey Mouse cup anyway. (h) Hiltingbury . . . . W 4-2 We kept up the pace on the leaders, but it we had to battle very hard for it at the end. Macca and Woody were suprisingly dropped, which gave Kieran 'Branflakes' Brannigan a chance to remind Martin what he can do. After going 1-0 up through Als and playing some top class football, we were on top of the game. Then 2 goals in a minute from hiiltingbury shocked Fawley. Upstepped heroic right-back Adam Elliott to drag his team back in the game, with a majestic tap in at the right end. Half time and we needed to get some goals. So we put a centre back up front. As Bill Shankly once said theres a thin line between madness and genius. Luckily the gaffer got it right, but it was another substitution that put us ahead, Kyle Hall, who showed true Fawley spirit to get to the ball and score. This settled nerves and we played some nice football again. Then Bromley scored! His header had power and accuracy to give us a two goal lead. One problem which came out of the game was whether Kier or Woody will partner Waz in the crunch match against Michelmersh, after 'Kiz' put in a great display. (h) Michelmersh & Timsbury . . . W 2-1 Fawley were well up for this game and battled hard for everything. Poetic justice was exacted after M&T somehow managed a fluke 6-2 victory over Fawley in the first game of the season. Steve Pester scored to put us ahead with a strong finish. Just before half time, Kyle hit a superb 25 yard volley into the top right hand corner but unfortunately the referee had already blew the whistle for a foul, when he should have played the advantage. M&T scored soon after the break with one of their first shots of the game, before Kyle Hall was put clean through to score a one on one with the keeper. Steve then squandered numerous opportunies to put us further ahead. Again, this was a game we should have won by at least 4 goals. It wasn't pretty, but it was outstanding spirit and determination that won this game. (a) Pirelli Pirates . . . W 4-1 Well what an easy game that was. There we were expecting Pirelli to put up a good challenge, but Sam the man Pearshouse scored twice with his right foot to put us up in about 5 mins. Pirelli pulled one back but after that makeshift centre back Woody put us further in front. Woody played well throughout the game and was a good replacement for the missing Matthew Blake. Bean the Mean Machine got booked after a 50-50 challenge with the keeper and about 5 of their players got booked including a sending off. Macca 'the human tank' scored and excellent solo goal to put the game beyond doubt. (h) East Cowes . . . W 4-0 Erm... good game! (a) East Cowes . . . W 5-1 The game was played in glorius sunshine and a very friendly and sporting atmosphere with East Cowes trying to avenge last weeks 4-0 defeat at Fawley. Fawley struck first through Michael "Brylcream" Bromley and increased their lead to 0-2 from Steve "the attitude" Pester's right peg and 0-3 from Mathew "the head" Woods and that was the half time score although that score did not reflect the superb football being played by Fawley. Second half was a more determined Cowes pulling one back and the Cowes keeper making 4 or 5 great saves but Fawley brought on 3 subs and pulled away again through a Woods 2nd and a Pester 2nd. With the game all but over both sets of players were relaxed and laughing when the Fawley tank, Ben McMonagle, ran over the edge of the pitch and comically disappeared from view. Final score East Cowes 1 Fawley AFC 5. (h) Riverside Blues . . . W 8-0 Fawley somehow conspired to go in at half time only 2-0 up, anyone watching was left wondering how that was possible but that was the score, both goals by Alex "pick 'em out the net" Coutts. 2nd half saw an improvment to Fawley but a mysterious injury to the Fawley keeper saw him having to come out of goal to be replaced by the Fawley skipper - who it turns up is a fantastic keeper who was brilliant and kept things very tight. Further goals from Sam "the flying man" Pearshouse (2) and Alex Coutts getting his hat-trick as well as one more for Ben "the human tank" Macmonagle, and one each for two new Fawley scorers Keiron "eat my shorts" Brannigan and Ryan "that's mine" Deluchi saw the full time score 8-0 to Fawley. Fawley have now had their entire outfield squad score. (h) Highwood Blues . . . W 4-1 A very disappointing first half in which Fawley somehow went into the halftime interval one goal down, after Highwood scored with their only attempt of the game. Fawley didn't capitalise on their posession, wasting weak efforts from outside the area. But at the break, Fawley's manager, Martin 'The Professor' Hall made three great substitutions, replacing Steve, Macca and Bean with Ben, Adam and Kyle. Fawley scored within 10 seconds through a great right footed strike from Sam. Sam then hit a perfect cross to Adam who hammered his header way over the bar, but he redeemed himself by capitalising on a keeper spill with his left foot. Sam made it 3 directly from a corner, which was his 7th of the season. Adam sealed the win with a drilled shot, again set up for him by the keeper. A routine win despite the early scare. (a) Chandlers Ford Town . . . L 4-2 As they say all good things come to an end, and this match signalled the end of a winning run in the league stretching back to mid-october. It was also the 1st time that we lost with Dan and Blakey as centre-backs, another great record. On a terrible pitch, which had a trench running through the middle of it, aswell as large rocks scatterd across it, we started off in control, as again chance after chance went begging. Eventually we made the breakthrough with a 22nd of the season from Macca. CFT managed one half-chance in the whole of the 1st half until they grabbed an equaliser, after the usually impeccable offside trap failed. This put a different out look on the game, but we were still confident of getting the win. Fawley then conceded a free kick, and despite a fantastic save from Danny Parker, the ball came back off the bar for a simple tap in. Again we pushed, spurning chances, before the goalscoring machine Macca added to his tally. Our hopes were then set back again when a seemingly offside CFT player raced through to score a 3rd. As we pushed on for an equaliser, we were vulnerable to the counter-attack. CFT made it 4 and Fawleys head seemed to go down. The main differance between the two teams was that they finished their chances and we didnt. One things for sure is that we'll be fired up for the return visit on Tuesday night. (a) Botley . . . . W 2-0 Fawley got straight back to winning ways with this convincing win over mid-table Botley, after their mid-week shock at CFT. We tried a new 4-5-1 formation. Fawley began brightly, attacking the Botley goal, but their keeper kept them in it with some good saves. The deadlock was broken by Macca, after good work with Woody. Half time 1-0. 2nd half saw a much better performance from Fawley, as we displayed some sexy passing. Fawley went 2-0 up after Woody spread the ball out wide to superstar full back Ryan Deluchi, who, after a slick 1-2 with the flying man, shimmied past the defender and pulled the ball back for Woody to slot home cooly. Despite a scare when Blakey placed it in his own net with a superb lob, which luckily didnt count due to a 'foul' on him, Fawley cruised through the second half, and are now ready to take on CFT in what promises to be a cold-blooded encounter, with victory securing promotion for Fawley AFC, with 2 games to spare. |
