Caring Service

On Joyous Occassions

The key purpose of Pastoral Care is to enable individuals and groups in a health care setting to respond to spiritual and emotional needs, and to the experiences of life and death, illness and injury, in the context of a faith or belief system.

Pastoral Care Workers/Chaplains, by becoming part of the hospital community, are in a unique position to;

  • help people to make sense of their hospitalisation;

  • effectively facilitate appropriate referrals;

  • and arrange follow-up in the community by networking.

Quiet Rooms are located throughout the hospital, and are available for patients, carers and staff to use for personal reflection, prayer, private discussion, crisis counselling, or just some quiet time either regularly or at times of crisis.

Ecumenical Services, Memorial Services and visits by different denominations are co-ordinated to directly alleviate some of the loneliness, suffering and distress associated with illness.

Pastoral Care Workers/Chaplains are endorsed by their own denomination and work as part of a Team which involves members of the local Ministers' Fraternal.

A Pastoral Care Committee exists within the Hospital to actively support the work. Trained volunteer Pastoral Care Visitors regularly visit in the Hospital and are available on call in times of crisis.
