They are concerned with directly applying certain deep ideas to daily life. They are a valuable source for studying central work-ideas and their practical application in daily life. The Psychological Commentaries were written from Dr. Nicoll's own understanding of the teaching in its practical application to himself and to the members of his groups. In these papers the fundamental ideas of the System of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky are expounded with clarity so that help is given to the reader towards understanding the efforts required to reach that individual level of development indicated as the goal of all the Great Religions-attainable only by practical work on oneself.

This book presents the definitive edition of Ouspensky's famous first series of five psychological lectures.

Ouspensky's famous first series of five psychological lectures preceded his second series of five cosmological lectures known as The Cosmology of Man's Possible Evolution. Together they form a complete whole view of man in the world. These lectures reproduce Ouspensky's own manuscripts and are in exactly the form he introduced these ideas between 1934-1940.

Studies man in view of what he may become. Describes how man must work simultaneously on his knowledge and his being to find inner unity. These lectures were intended by Ouspensky as introductory material for people interested in the work in England. This material is still unmatched as a brief statement of the work's psychological ideas.

Based on the book of the same name, this is the story of Gurdjieff's search through the Middle East and Central Asia for hidden knowledge and answers to questions on the meaning of life. Made on location in the forbidding, rarely photographed mountains and deserts of Afghanistan, widely acclaimed for its unique visual beauty. Contains only publicly available footage of Movements and Sacred Dances. This film tells the story of the early life of G. I. Gurdjieff, during which he fervently searches for a source of knowledge that will help him begin to understand the meaning of human existence. The sacred dances seen near the end of the film are actual examples of 'movement exercises' performed by pupils of Gurdjieff as an aid to self-study, and they are seen performed not by actors or professional dancers, but by highly practiced pupils themselves.

A primary source for students of the work ideas.

The record of the author's intimate association with the mystic Gurdjieff, and his search for a system of universal knowledge. An astonishing record of the author's search for the meaning of human existence and of his eight years' work as the pupil of G. I. Gurdijeff, one of this century's most profound and influential spiritual teachers.

Written with direct simplicity this book cannot fail to convey the impression that not only did he discover a real knowledge about Man and the Universe, but that a practical teaching for the conduct of life is even now in existence. These are no theories of philosophy or psychology, but a complete understanding of the problems of life and the most direct instructions for the betterment of man's existence.

All written according to entirely new principles of logical reasoning and strictly directed towards the solution of the following three cardinal problems:

First Series: To destroy, mercilessly, without any compromises whatsoever, in the mentation and feelings of the reader, the beliefs and views, by centuries rooted in him, about everything existing in the world.

Gurdjieff's magnum opus, an esoteric jewel.

This edition---the first single-volume paperback to appear in English---restores the original, authoritative translation supervised by Gurdjieff himself and the brilliant English editor A. R. Orage.

A. R. Orage: 'It is really an objective work of art, of literature of the highest kind; it is in the category of scripture. A must-read for all serious students.'

This richly complex book, one of the most challenging and rewarding works of twentieth-century literature, is considered Gurdjieff's masterpiece.

This book beautifully brings to life the visions of humanity for which Gurdjieff has become esteemed. Beelzebub, a man of worldly (and other-worldly) wisdom, shares with his grandson the anecdotes, personal philosophies, and lessons learned from his own life. The reader is given a detailed discussion of all matters physical, natural, and spiritual, from the creation of the cosmos to man's teleological purpose in the universe.

Verbatim records of his oral teaching from 1921 to 1946 provide a comprehensive statement of the Work ideas as taught by P. D. Ouspensky.

It gives a lucid explanation of the practical side of G. I. Gurdjieff's teachings.

The most comprehensive statement thus far published of the ideas taught by the late P. D. Ouspensky. Consisting of verbatim records of his oral teaching from 1921 to 1946, it gives a lucid explanation of the practical side of G. I. Gurdieff's teachings, which Gurdjieff presented in the form of raw materials, Ouspensky's specific task having been to put them together as a systematic whole. Just as Tertium Organum deals with a new mode of thinking, so The Fourth Way is concerned with a new way of living. It shows a way of inner development to be followed under the ordinary conditions of life---as distinct from the three traditional ways that call for retirement from the world: those of the fakir, the monk, and the yogi.

Second Series: To acquaint the reader with the material required for a new creation and to prove the soundness and good quality of it.

Striking portraits of the inspiring individuals Gurdjieff met while journeying to remote parts of Asia and the Near East in search of hidden knowledge. This autobiographical account has become a classic since its publication in 1963.

Gurdjieff's autobiographical account of his youth and early travels has become something of a legend since it was first published in 1963. A compulsive 'read' in the tradition of adventure narratives, but suffused with Gurdjieff's unique perspective on life, it is organized around portraits of remarkable men and women who aided Gurdjieff's search for hidden knowledge or accompanied him on his journeys in remote parts of the Near East and Central Asia.

Third Series: To assist the arising, in the mentation and in the feelings of the reader, of a veritable, nonfantastic representation not of that illusory world which he now peceives, but of the world existing in reality.

Trained in Kars as both a priest and a physician, Gurdjieff travelled for 20 years in the remotest areas of Central Asia and the Middle East, a crucial time in the moulding of his thought. This volume is mainly autobiographical, and includes a series of talks that he gave to his pupils.

This record of the Work has been published to help modern students understand how the teachings of Gurdjieff, Nicoll, and Ouspensky can be actualized.

The Work is about applying what you know to your daily activities, rather than simply theorizing about abstract ideas of life. The author lived the work life and studied with Maurice Nicoll for almost two decades, beginning to teach a group at his request in 1955.

The group had residential meetings at Dorton House, and it was there that people had a chance to experiment with what they learned. A level of community developed: group projects included painting a mural, building a summer house, and making a glass mosaic of the zodiac---all activities designed to bring out various talents in the group. It was a great opportunity for learning. Here she shares actual work sessions with students so that modern readers can experience this kind of teaching firsthand.
