Forgiveness                                                              Read Matthew 18:21-22

Forgiveness is NOT just forgetting what someone did to you. Forgiveness IS not holding something against someone.

Why should we forgive someone?

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV))

Not forgiving someone is a sin and our sins seperate us from God. So by holding grudge against someone you are effecting your relationship with God.

Also, when you hold a grudge against someone you can become very bittter and if you have ever been around a bitter person my guess is you probably dont want to be like that.

How many times do you forgive someone ofr the same thing?

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall i forgive my brother when he sins againt me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven (in some versions 70 times seven) times."

(Matthew 18:21-22(NIV))

This means that we should always keep forgiving even when it is really hard to forgive someone.

How do you frogive someone?

Pray. Ask God to help you forgive that person. also pray for the person that has hurt you.

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

(Matthew 5:44 (NIV))

Talk to the person that hurt you. They may not even realize what they have done. So bringing it to thier attention can keep them from doing the same thing again to you or someone else. Also, let the person know you have forgiven them.
